I thought so Theo after i posted, it's been a long day, :roll:

I had the chance of a H5 from leicester in white with a blown H/gasket I bet this is the same engine,

quite an interesting project, :D

I also seen that white one for sale, dont think the engine came from there though.

Your right as is staley-turbo, they are forged Mahle pistons.

Have either of you checked the block for numbers stamped into it that dont look like factory castings?

Either thats been rebuilt with new pistons or it could be an Alpina block.

I thought hartge used these pistons, if they didn't, its quite a mix of stuff.

No deffo didnt on the H5 from an E34 or H5 E28.

They did used them in the 254bhp H6SP conversion in E24 6 series.

You sure the engine came from an E34?

As topless has posted, that ECU is for an E24.

Looks like you have just found another 14bhp! :)

I don't think he new what the engine was out of, he told me he had brought the car with the engine in, or brought the engine not in a car. I cant remember witch.

Yes it certainly is and very rare to as the 240bhp is more common and even that is rare.

It should also have a raised rev limit of 6400rpm.

the engine was in the car,but we knew the car it came from,was a red 535i e34...it was very fast and this engine does rev to 6200ish,could be more but i don't really take it that far! interesting this,because the ratios in the standard box i have just put on the car do not feel the same as the one from the original manual box that was with the engine,the shift seemed shorter on the hartge manual box,except now we think its not hartge,maybe just a mix of a few things! they were defo high comp pistons in there,even staley_turbo was suprised when he saw them...bss325 you have just definately made me change my mind and keep the car now. i knew it was special the moment i laid eyes on it and drove it.

I thought the 179 was an E34 ECU as I have the same in my car.
