Well iv'e had 4 E30s so far and you get good ones and propper piss poor ones.

A bloke at work drives a Ka, and he IS a propper fagott. He cant seem to grasp the fact that they are fun to drive (especialy in the wet)

You could always enter a banger race with it ! Although i dont think it would hold out for too long looking at the build quality.

Dude are you insane? Fords resell values are, literally, cut in half the second you drive it off the lot. I live in Canada, and my grandparents have gone through no less than 5 Fords in 15 years! They are bunk! Terrible, unoriginal, plain, boring, wimpy shit bags.

Surely everyone knows that the Ka's engine is light years ahead of the E30's offerings.

I'm pretty sure the 'Endura' motor or whatever it's called started life back in the 50's powering the E93a ford pops, admittedly Ford have modernised it by beefing up the crank and fitting a cross flow head. It's got "oh so refined" overhead valves. A very nice little engine.

The flatmates E30 must be pretty shagged to get a write up as descibed in the first post.

I was going to write a load of other 'tongue in cheek' stuff about the Ford brand of cars but really can't be arsed.

If the E30 is so crap why would you bother to search the internet for an E30 forum, sign up and post multiple times (going to the trouble of starting a new thread)? Especially when you have to know full well what the response will be?

Then you lecture people about open mindess while saying that the Ford Ka is the best car in the world and when anyone dissagrees you don't listen. I have no problem with you liking the Ford Ka, I hope everyone has there own opinion on what is their favourite car BUT I don't like it when people try to shove that opinion in my face. I can make up my own mind and so can everyone else.

I don't think any E30 is the best car in the world, but I think they are a very good car to have, especially for how much they cost now.

Here is why I wouldn't buy a Ford Ka:
1) FWD without an LSD
2) Smaller and less interior and boot space than an E30
3) Too little power for what I want
4) Difficult to get decent reliable power from the standard engine without serious and expensive modifications and even when it gets big power see 1.
5) I don't think it could match the handling balance of an E30. I haven't driven one but I know a good E30 can match a lot of "sportscars" in handling and in road tests I have never seen a Ford Ka up high in the handling or handling balance comparisions. Regardless I think it is almost undisputed fact that by being FWD a Ford Ka cannot e balanced on the throttle almost indefinately while sideways through a corner like an E30 can which is what I like.
6) From what I have seen they have no better (in some places worse) build quality than my 20 year old E30.

I should also point out that I have nothing against small cars, I actually like some of the hot hatches, but I don't think the Ka would ever be classed as a hot hatch otherwise why would ford build the tuned up Focus?
I am definately willing to keep an open mind and I hope in the future I get a chance to drive a Ka so I can see what it is like.

Why are we comparing an E30 to a Ka anyhow?
A comparable car would probably be an Orion. I'll even go as far as to say Orion 1600i Ghia; and where are they all now? At the back of your local paper for Ԛ£50 requiring a lift home, or dissolved away like an old metro. Similarly, where will all the Ka's be when they're 16 years old? I can see the tumbleweed on the 'classic Ka' forum now.

It felt really plasticky and i was struggling to hit 80mph and that was going downhill . Not to mention it felt like it was going to tip over everytime i went round a corner. At the end of the day we all buy different things for different reasons and i'm sure to someone else the Ka is wicked and that's fair enough, but you must be hung like a Humming Bird to come on a E30 forum and start to slag off E30's. He has just come back and pronounced the E30 as "Quicker, Funner and generally superior in all ways" to his own car. He also said there was a funny smell of petrol but we'll worry about that later.

Alrighty,,, here is my two penneth!

I have owned a Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec, a Mondeo 1.8 Verona, a Mondeo 2.0 Zetec (I still have this) a BMW e36 323 Cab and now a BMW E30 325 Cab.

The Fords are actually well built, and compared the new Mondeo to the E46, they are less common too
However My Mondeo is fine for running to the shops so the BM doesn't get trolley bashed. perfect for winter with the kids getting in and out, as I don't get the interior of my BM screwed. But the BM wins for pure driving.

Depends what you want. I have driven a Ka and didn't like it, too flimsy and didn't feel comfortable in it. The Fiesta was actually fun to drive and throw around, and for the people who think they depreciate, I bought the Fiesta for Ԛ£6000 brand new (Relative worked for Fords so got good discount) and sold it back to the same dealership a year later for Ԛ£6700 Not many cars you can do that with.

So to sum it up, horses for courses, Ford engineering is much better now than it used to be (especially the new mondeos).
But the old skool BMer is a total driving/cruising machine!

Jon (elboono) I'm not "worryingly obsessed", I just happen to like it. Yes the engine may be a bit tappety, but it needs a service and it's done nearly 190k. Find me a 190,000 mile Ford Ka and we can ask people to make comparisons.

I think this is a little unfair considering the effort I made putting you on the insurance and the fact I let you drive it in the first place.

Needless to say, you won't be driving my car again.
