I just finished adapting the X20 and C101 except for pin 15. On my x20 connector there is nothing pinned into port #15. According to the diagrams there should be a wire.

What exactly is pin 15 used for, all the descriptions state "relay", but what relay? What on the motor does it control so I can just trace that component back with a multi meter.

Are there "extra wires"?

The pinouts for secondary functions may change from year to year so you should check the ETM schemas for the correct year and model (both for the car and engine) to find out what is what.

Yes there were "extra wires". I checked the diagrams on E38.org however it states pin 15 should be filled. I have a 530 loom and the diagrams state "M60 engine" which makes me think there is a difference between 540 and 530.

If I knew what this "relay" was I could just trace the "extra wires" back to it.

I was also looking at your wiring notes that you linked in another thread and you didn't document this pin. Is it required?

M60B30 was never used in E38 so you're looking at the wrong diagrams...
I've full running M60 engine wired according to that schema I uploaded so i guess it's not needed :P

Anyways, check the correct wires / pins here; http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/BMW/

Thanks for the link, it is a lot of help. One more question. Does a dashed line on a wiring diagram indicate an optional wire, because on the 94 530 engine diagram 3 does show pin 15 to diagnosis RXD (whatever that means) however in a dashed connection.

Oh well I will try and fire it up with out this pin and see what happens.

Not sure what the dashed line means (might be that the wire is protected), but diagnosis RXD surely is not needed so it'll work fine without it.

Alltogether you should use only the wires strictly required and leave all the extra wires unconnected. This will lessen the hassle and make everything simpler.
