Yesterday i had the pleasure of working on this absolutely stunning 1989 635CSi Highline! :D Alpine white 2 with extended Lotus white leather with all options including heated seats and ice cold A/C still on R12 gas! The car belongs to a trader of serious prestige cars and it will be up for sale soon.
This is by far and away the best conditon E24 i have seen other than a few concours cars at shows.

And this morning i walked into work to be greeted by this! A 1971 E3 2800 Automatic with only 80000 miles! I was given the task of sorting the running issues out on this as it kept cutting out. It was no minter but for a near on 40 year old car it was very solid and original!

Check this tool kit out! Even has feeler blades and an adjustment tool to set the valve clearances on the M30B28 with twin zenith carbs!

This pair are latest in a long line of 20+ year old BMW that always end up being given to me to work on.

Probably beacause i get the most excited about them. (Yes sad i know!)

I just hope that i get some more old gems to work on when i move the Vines Gatwick in a couple of weeks!

Have to say Barry. Your texts with the photos of these helped me though the day. This week has bee a shit at work. To see a 1971 saloon in a main dealer workshop made my day. Shame it wasn't a full blown 3.0si but hey, can't win em all eh?

That 6 is the absolute bollox. In the right colour as well 8)

They have both (like other old BMW metal) caused various staff members to flock around them! Even the dealer pricipal was blown away by the 6!

And yes it does make the day more interesting than the ususal bollocks on E8x/E9x/E6x/Mini etc etc.

Ha ha! :D I was wondering who would be the first to mention the wrinkly hand! It belongs to the oldest guy who works for us. He's been with BMW since 1983!

They must have to go down a long way to install them. Take another look at the blue one series on the ramp next door! 8O

They do go along way down. Back in feb, the one closest the workshop entrance had to be dug out as it kept filling up with water. The dealer is built on ex marshy land and has a high clay content in the ground so as the ramps cassette go some way down the ground, one leaked and kept filling up with water. There was a 20ft hole in our workshop for a couple of months while a new ramp was installed and a pump system to get rid of the water.

Im sure all BMW dealers do the 10+ labour rate of approx £50ph + vat for BMW's over 10 years old. Ours do anyway.

Cheaper than alot of independant specialists!

I'd almost feel guilty for being paid to tinker with cars like that :) I guess your proximity to Eastbourne and the number of retired old farts must bring in a few classics?

Did you run a full diagnostic check on the computer on the E3? :P
