Hi I had to replace the battary on my 1993 E30 Touring 316i Lux Auto over the weekend. The MPG meter has since stopped working. I have checked all the fuses in the fuse box and they are all ok. However I do had a faulty SI board which displays the service lights randomly. Could this fault be linked to the SI board problem or is it a faulty guage/relay or other hidden fuse some where.

Many thanks

High Dal,

this is normally down to duff SI batts, they leak and the acid slowly eats the PCB in the cluster, then stuff stops working

best bet , used cluster with a known good SI board, you may be able to salvage yours if you act fast enough

The initial problem with the batteries is that they go short circuit, rather than just don't work. They will leak after a while, but unless the dud SI board has been neglected for years, I usually find that corrosion of the board hasn't gone to far.
