Wheel locking nut

Hey all

I've just recently bought new front and rear cross drilled discs and pads for my '90 325i. The mags on the car aren't standard (set of Smith's racing mags) and when I took the cover off to remove the wheel nuts, I noticed that there is a locking nut on there and I cannot get it off with the wheel spanner.

Would anyone have an idea where I could get one of these tools to remove it, or would I have to get the local tyre place to remove it? I would imagine they would need to cut it off and I'm worried about damage being done to the mags.

Go to your local tyre shop theyve got tools to remove them without doing any damage whatsoever!

Thanks for the advice Simon. I'll be going down there on Saturday. The guy from Kwik-Fit said that they would need to be broken off and that he didn't have the tool. Oh well.... don't go to Kwik-Fit again I guess.

ITs hard to do with no key and almost all the time some kind of damage is done, if not to the alloy then to the baring.

It took my friend about a minute to remove the ones on the touring, with no damage whatsoever not even to the locking nuts!

You must have had cheap locking nuts. Mcguard ones took a pro 20min to take off from my car and the baring went straight after.

Funny that..Mcguard ones they were! Didn't think they were that cheap!

I dont see how your friend could remove them with no damage to the locking nuts.

I saw! It was a large socket type tool, which he hammered onto the locking nut and proceeded to use a wheel wrench to undo it!

He gave me the locking nuts back afterwards and there was no damage to them at all.

Well Mcguard boast about the fact that they have the best locking nuts and are very hard to get off with out the key. The guy who done one of mines did the same but he could not get the socket on at all. Are you sure they were Mcguard?

These locking nuts are rounded at the bottom and there are 2 grooves at the top when the tool would fit into. I really hope that the tyre place will be able to remove it as my brakes and discs are shot to hell and I need to replace them ASAP.

Definiteley, I replaced them with exactly the same ones, I was shocked on how easy they came off!

you can buy the universal locking wheel nut removal set from, of all places, halfords.
Alternatively RS components do a nicer set if you have access to these at work.
Kind of misses the point of having locking wheel nuts really.
