Hi there
my E30 has an oil temerature gauge fitted, but it has never worked. Found out today that the sensor is not connected to the engine... now I know why it does not work!
Is there a hole in the block somewhere, where I can insert this, or does it fit onto one of the hoses... if so, where is the best palce to fit it?
Thanks

what I did to get my in , is a modified a custom brass T adapter to fit both oil pressure and oil temp off the stock oil press sensor placement (under the oil filter in m20).
This works really bad, because, all tho the pressure is there, there's no actuall oil fold in that place, therefore the oil temp gauge takes ages to show any reading, and generally it reads incorrectly.
To get the proper oil temp reading, you will have to put in either in
1. sump plug - there are adapters (i.e. sump plugs with threaded hole in them) to fit your oil temp sensor
2. drill another hole in the sump - make sure it's on the same side of the sump as the sump plug... the other side is used for oil level metering, and i suspect the oil flow there is not ideal (there is a huge divider in the sump to separate two chambers with a small hole to equalize oil level).
Do not connect it to oil cooler lines or oil press feed as i did.
sump is the best place, as it is the place where oil is picked up from.
