Mate you MUST put the spacers on the top. Otherwise it rubs on the sump. Bolts up from the bottom nuts on top. That makes life easier if you need to move the rack about for pipes etc.

Started on the front of the car today bit of bad news for me the welder has to come out to sort some bits out in the engine bay at the same time meaning though im going to have to paint it im going to get rid of bits that arnt needed like the coil hanger and the bit that the relays are clipped to also before it gets painted i can fabricate or even get Dan to a E36 air box hanger

Oh well at least the bay will look better in the long run just a shame i have to weld a tidy car but needs must.
At least i had time to treat the other side to some waxoyl as that is pretty good and no rust

Thats it for today as im going to see Stiff little fingures tonight and meeting my mrs brother in west brom at 3

That's a shame Mark, I'd do something about that rear arch whilst it's in its early stages.

It is a bit but its one of the common places E30's go so it will get sorted and the wheel arches are on the list to but there is no point preping them until i have all the paint and materials to sort them outOllie_bwoii wrote:That's a shame Mark, I'd do something about that rear arch whilst it's in its early stages.

The panel that the air con dryer sits in is pretty cheap from BMW IIRC, easier to just stick the whole panel in then build the bits of arch up
Modding the bay for 24v is the way to go

I didnt see any mention of underseal being applied? Waxoil gives a clear water resistant barrier so I dont see how you can say it will do nothing

Looks good Mark, that is minimal welding though and you couldn't exactly leave it could you!
There aren't many E30's that don't require attention so its not like its a big issue really

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Waxoil does nothing. That's a new one on me.
I better start removing it from all the usual places on mine then. That's going to be easy.

underseal/stonechip etcetc is on the car as std correct? looks like he's just put waxoyl over the underseal... underseal should provided water barrier aswell (thats what its there for afterall) waxoyl for inside sills, box section etcetc but under the wheelarches? really!?DanThe wrote:I didnt see any mention of underseal being applied? a waxy substance on top of anything will give better corrosion protection than nothing. i wouldn't use waxoyl myself but it's better than nowt.VW-will wrote:underseal/stonechip etcetc is on the car as std correct? looks like he's just put waxoyl over the underseal... underseal should provided water barrier aswell (thats what its there for afterall) waxoyl for inside sills, box section etcetc but under the wheelarches? really!?DanThe wrote:I didnt see any mention of underseal being applied? The whole of my car is plastered in waxoil the same, obviously when the car was new the owner had it done (hero)
Which is why after a clean the arches look like this -

If you think underseal is better you are very wrong and your car is probably rusty

underseal . its good for growing rust. i restored a fiat strada 130tc in 2001 and used 10 litres of underseal. a year later i was under the car scraping it off in big lumps with a wallpaper scrapper. its rubbish i would never use underseal on a car again . it just held water inbetween its self and the freshly welded parts and made them very rusty.

primed or not it was still getting water trapped under it.

Primer is porous so wont make a blind bit of difference
Underseal is only any good for covering up gash repairs on rusty old shitters that are in desperate need of one last MOT..
