have seen a lot of conversions bmw and non bmw and have toyed with many different conversions myself and i really just cannot decide. i want between 300-400hp but still retain reliability driveability. just wondering if anyone on here has any ideas?
dont want anything too weighty either (v8s etc) straight 6 turbo in my eyes seems the best way to go but which one? and i dont want to be fighting for space in my engine bay either
cheers

How high is up?
The figure the hardcore members keep throwing around is circa £6k to fit one of these to an e30.

Ouch, I´d be able to do a turbo conversion on a M50 converted car for that money :)
something like 500hp would be the target.
With great challenges comes great engineering.

My question is which engine is hard to swap in to E30? S50B32 or S54? Because I want to buy engine for my cabby.

S54 is more grief due to the electronics - fly by wire throttle and sensors all over the place.

Don't discount a good old supercharged M20B25, well capable of 350hp fitted with a Rotrex C30-94 (as fitted by Tim_Haynes to his M20B25), and a "relatively" easy add-on to the M20.

If a 12-valve engine isn't your thing then an M50 would the way to go, although (personally) I'd consider a roots pump (Eaton M62) if you spend a fair bit of time in stop-start traffic at low RPM (and have a substantial fuel budget). Roots pumps are notorius for delivering low RPM grunt for the simple reason that they are constant volume pumps, as opposed to Turbo's (and Rotrex's for that matter) which are centrifugal blowers. Not that there's anything wrong with a turbo'd M50, all a matter of your personal preference, budget, driving style and intended application.

i have worked with a few detroit two stroke diesels which incorporate turbos and superchargers, how well do you think an m20 would take to that?

I'm really not sure how you would go about attaching a Detroit 2-stroke Diesel engine to an M20 :D
