first of all im a newbie, (great site btw) so hello all. The problem with the diff is one morning there was a kind of click, click, click sound which went in tune with the speed of the car, by the time i got near home it was a really loud metalic noise (hard to describe) so i left the car for that day and when my mate looked at it that night he had a little shot but there was no noise, then he look at it underneath and said there was oil all over the diff (very wet) and suggested it must be it and its ran dry hence the noise. So is it on its way out? Im not that technically minded btw so bare with me. My pride and joy is a 1989 G 325 sport auto.

Any help would be appreciated guys. :(

Mine did this,

It was clicking, which got louder and louder, into a banging noise, like someone was in the boot with a pneumatic drill.

Limped it to the Specialists and had it changed.

I think it's past just filling it with oil, it's probably knackered, like missing a tooth on a cog,

It was gonna cost 80 for a second hand diff and about the same for fitting.

So at a specialist it should be under 200, including second hand diff.

I will soon be selling the 3.38 diff from mine, because I have a Limited Slip Diff going on.

If yours is a sport, then it should have an LSD, sorry!

It doesn't strictly have to have one, but it does have originally.

These are quite rarely for sale, but you could get lucky, keep your eye out on here and then up to 100 pounds for fitting, or you could do it yourself if you are handy with a spanner?!

They sell for between 200 and 300 quid.

You could consider getting it refurbed.

Another possibility is a CV joint, or propshaft coupling.
