A mate's about to sign the dotted line on an '03 X5 with a 4.6. Anybody know these? What are the things to look for and worry about?

I advised him to buy shares in oil but I don't think he's too bothered..
It was this or a750iL but he was set on a jeep and looks like he'll be in this by next week.

Many electrical problems, worn out suspension, tight council previous owners who have scrimped on maintainence are things to look out for.
Panoramic sunroofs
Water cooled alternators
Headgaskets
Water pumps
Radiators
Air suspension components
TV/Nav/Radio faults
Battery current drains
Automatic gearboxes
All of the above are common problem areas and nearly all are expensive to sort!

Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £134.75
12 Months Rate £245.00
I must have looked at future prices for these vehicles? God knows...

Funny this. My mate in Abu Dhabi has just perchased a 4.8i X5. Reckons it's f*cking awesome. Til you get to a corner. He's ben ranting about how the engine spins up like a goodun and how rapid it is. Fuel economy? At the prices over there who gives a shit!

Thanks bss, that's what I was looking for. Saw it today. Surprised how much I liked it. Imola red with black leather, 60k, clean but could use a machine polish and wheel refurb to look its best (speaking of which, it has 19 or 20 inch alloys, naturally). He says it goes like poop off a scoop!bss325i wrote:All of the above are common problem areas and nearly all are expensive to sort!
