Why no lightening/higher(er) CR?!ShepsEvo3 wrote:Yes, it is still a 2.3ltr. No lightening, just a nice build with slightly higher CR pistons, nice porting and polishing but with standard valves and ofcourse the obligatory 284/276 schrick set up.paddyvw wrote:wow that is amazing. is is a 2.3 making that power? well done paul another great car to another good car on your books. i fear in time my car will need a rebuild but in the future!!
We had to restrain Grant from putting in larger valves, more aggressive cams and a higher CR again with lightened parts. But it was worth the wait in my opinion as it is a truely cracking motor now

Very nice Warren!
What software did you use to edit the HDR?
I spent a lot of last winter playing with the technique, there are a couple of different packages which give completely different results. Happy to offer some advice if you need it.

Well after nearly selling up for a Porsche (long story) I decided to carry on improving so off came a load of old metal..... I took the car to Turner Race Developments in Gloucester to have a serious steering vibration at above 50mph diagnosed and, well, i decided that while he was there........
Off came the exhaust manifold

Off came the ARBs, drop links and inner/ outer track rods

Struts off

Off came the throttlebodies and carbon airbox

The Evo II's had a white cam cover with the M3 stripes. A useless piece of factual info was that the blue represents the Bavarian auto works, the red represented Texaco fuels who backed the M Racing back in the early days and the purple reperented the partnership of both companies.
Anyway, Greg did the honours and painted it but in satin black.

Next to arrive was the new engine mounts using a stiffer polyurethane bush.

Then the manifold arrived back. Yippee! The standard e30 M3 manifold is a pretty awesome piece of kit which to be honest is pretty difficult to improve on. So I decided to have it cermaic coated. Apparently it reduces temperatures by approximately 30%. All i know is it looks tidy!....

The old carbon airbox wasnt to the standard i wanted so i decided to update it. A lot of the suspension and steering components had also pretty much had it so.....

New wheel bearings and fixings all round and new brake disc covers.

More to come...
Over and out :salute:
Cheers,
Warren

As Dan says its not cheap but from what i've read its pretty hard to beat the standard manifold on an M3. The main goal for me was to get it looking like new. Lowering engine bay temps is also a bonus!

Nice project. It was the Evo II that came with the white cam cover and M strips. The Sports were black.

Thanks Demlotcrew!
Its been a long time since I've posted so I thought Id give a small update. Following an engine/ chassis refresh last year I still wasn't happy with it. I decided to give it one last mental (and more signicantlyfinancial!)push to complete what I'd started. I know what I want and fingers crossed within the next couple of months it will finally be finished (finished finished
)
I never intend to sell this car. It's a unbelievable dream come true for me to own a piece of motorsport history and one of the true homologation specials of the 80's plus e30 M3's seem to be appreciating in value. As a consequence it allowed me to justify going the extra mile to achieve my perfect M3 thats most definitely a keeper.
So November(ish) last year, the BBSRS with stainless lips and the H&R coilovers all said goodbye. I really regret selling those RS's but I couldn't fund the wheel purchase without letting them go. The new wheels have a lot to live up to. lol
Anyway, progress so far has been slow mainly due to waiting for bits and bobs to come back but its all starting to come to fruition now.......

KW Motorsport coilovers with custom tuned ride height, 2 way damp rebound adjustment and KW HLS 2 hydraulic lift system for the speed humps.

KW 3 way camber plates

New fuel lines from BMW

2.46 LSD (refurbed 3 years ago)....................

stripped sanded and acid dipped ready for painting.
Jamie and Dan from TRD based in Gloucester as usual are doing the work for me. Top job boys!
More updates v. soon.

This is going to be awesome. Do you mean a 3.46 ratio diff?Im pretty sure a 2.46 will mean a 200+mph top speed.

Typo! Yeah meant 3.46! Loving the Alfa 155 at the karousel in your Avatar.
Yeah I really wish that I could've kept the RS's just in case but the new wheels are costing more than expected..... These new wheels have alot to live up to but Im hoping that Ill finally have my perfect M3.
Good spotting on the blue M3. I wonder how long it would take for someone to spot it lol Thats my mates M3 also at TRD. Full nut and bolt resto. Unbelievable!
Cheers,
Warren

Thought so. I've ran a 3.46 rebuilt lsd on my last m50 and the ratio was ideal, however on the M50 box it was flat by 130mph.fourmotion wrote:Typo! Yeah meant 3.46! Loving the Alfa 155 at the karousel in your Avatar.

Its a Alfa 75 in the avatar, hired it from RSR a few years back when I went to ring and had no toy to take.

I kinda was, although I thought I'd seen a set. Pretty sure these a custom made and not Ronal off the shelf although I could be wrong. It's amazing what google can throw up. Even with safe search enabled!
