One for the wiki

I'll be referring to that at some point in the future then :D
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Right then the wright up i was promising most of the pics aren't very good quality and Ive forgot to take some pics like a knob :D

To do the bearings you need to jack the car up remove wheel
Then you need to remove the locking ring around the hub nut this is a royal pain in the arse to move so what i did was hammer my socket onto the nut undone said nut and picked what was left of the locking ring out
Image
Image
Then you have to remove the brake caliper and disc
Image
Image
To remove the disc you may need a helping hand from one of these :D
Image
Now with the disc removed it should look something like this
Image
now its time to start pulling the hub this was a b4stard as the rear of the hub has a chamfered edge on it but on Capri robs car is didn't so i had to modify my hub puller with my angle grinder so it would work correctly
Image
all 3 legs needed some material removing so they would grip on the flat section on the hub
this is a pic of it at work
Image
when the hub is clear of the bearing you will notice part of the bearing race is still attached to the hub the way i remove this is by clamping the hub in the vice and using a hammer and chisel lamp it til it comes off. This pic shows the part of the bearing that is still attached to the hub
Image
Now we are getting into the fun bits removing the sir clip is a tw4t with cheap halfords sir clip pliers they must be made of chocolate how easy they bent.
as you can see in this pic the sir clip is still on
Image
now its in the garden somewhere :D
Image
and after 10 minutes of looking found it
Image
While this is all apart it would be stupid not to change the backing plates for the brakes. So that's what I'm doing too.
To do this you need to split the brake pipe and the brake hose from the caliper i just let the fluid drip on the floor meaning though I'm changing the fluid anyway.
Image
Now this is all striped down i had to remove the drive shaft by undoing the 8 bolts that hold it to the diff flange good job the car has an LSD.
with the drive shaft removed its time to remove whats left of the bearing to get the bearing to start moving i used a piece of threaded bar a big washer on the out side of the arm and a socket that just fits in the hole on the inside of the arm this is purley to break the hold the bearing has with the arm to make hitting it out a bit easier also this helps too.
Image
giving it a little heat can help a lot too
once its out with lots of violence and swearing it will probably look something like this :D
Image
The its time to re fit the new bearing i used a bit of grease to help it slide in then used my big flat washer and hit it with my hammer until it was flush with the arm then to send it all the way home used the old bearing housing.
It should look something like this now.
Image
thats as far as i got today as the weather was a bit pants will have another update tomorrow hopefully.

Good job as always dude. I wouldn't want to have to do one on my arse next to the car.

This is going to be another QUALITY conversion with everything renewed or updated. Done properly. I like it!

Right then a bit more of an up date finished the one side off today and this is how it went

Started off by fitting all the new brakes shoes and fixing kit to hold them in place then had to press the hub into the bearing.
Image
As you can see threaded bar is a valuable tool in any tool kit. All i did was have a load of washers in the hub and a socket that just about fits into the arm so the bearing doesn't pull though and fook it up.
This is what it looks like when its finished and the hub is all the way home.
Image
before i put the hub on i fitted a new hand brake cable silly not to for £10 a side from GSF and greased the lever the cable fits to so it work properly for a change.
Then it was time to fit the hub nut did this up to 300nm and the once this was torqued up i fitted the once use locking ring never knew you had to knock them onto the nut like you do :D
Image
This is a brand new nut and locking ring a bit over the top if the only nut is any good really.
Now this is all built up Ive left the caliper off as I'm going to clean them up i might even stick a new set of seals in the.
While i was at this i thought i would clean the wheel arch out.
Image
Image
Image
I used tfr and a hand brush to clean all the crap off the lip and in the arch its self then i gave it a liberal coating of this nasty shite.
Image
I used a paint brush so i could get into all the nooks and crannies and now it should last another 5 years i hope.
It looks like this now
Image
Image
All in all not a very eventful day but its getting there I'm going to start the other side tomorrow with out taking pics i should have it done in a day if I'm on the ball :)

Been at it again today and this was the progress :D
Image
New bearing in place this side seemed to fall apart compared to the off side.
Image
This is a good one showing how good a piece of threaded bar is and air tools.
Image
This is showing the hub not quite all the way home.
Image
This is how it should look when fully pressed in to the bearing.
Image
I find there is something very porno graphic about new bits :D

Now this is what happened to my tyres on zoneroam last year i didnt know they where this bad though
Image
Now its time for the wheel arch to get its treatment to help it last through winter
Image
Image
Then it was time for a bladdering with waxoyl
Image
Image

Im feeling the love for this poor old turd again tomorrow hopefully i will be sticking the E36 rack on and cleaning the front wheel arches out and waxoyling them but well will see. It doing that or dropping the tank out to see why i can smell fuel in the car.
