Glenn, glad to hear that all is running fine. Hope people will realise now what a good job my friend is doing with the ECU reflash for S62 and S54.
Are you taking it on a dyno, i am dying to see a graph

i'm more than happy to put it on the rollers, uwe.
the ecu reprogramming is perfect, and i'd happily recommend him to anyone thinking of having they're s54 or s62 ecu flashed.

i've been out in the car again this afternoon, been up to kevo's house to pick up and deliver some parts.
and then i went for a little spin....
the torque is monstrous!, i'm waiting for it to rip the diff mounting off the chassis. so after looking around kev's rally car today, i'm going to put the e36 m3 diff back plate on, as it has 2 mounting lugs ( nice job kev)

Great to see it running!!!

I can't decide if I'll use your mate Uwe for re-flashing my ECU or just buy a standalone unit for the S54. Can he set it up for open stacks or carbon air-box too with Alpha-N etc?
Let me know how the ABS goes too as I'm fitting it to my road car when its stripped down

What diff ratio are you using Glenn and is it a 6 speed or 5 speed box you have in it?
Fecking good insurance quote too!!!

So how long before you end up ripping it out again so the car is sitting in the garage awaiting yet another engine swap :P

dave,
diff ratio is the standard m3 3.25, which is possibly a tad too short, but i want to keep it because it's in excellent condition....has performed perfectly with everything i've thrown at it....has no leaks or noises....and it's part of the family now!
gearbox is the e39 m5 6 speed.

you know me too well !!
i've been getting a few pm's about selling the conversion set-up complete.
so i've been on the phone to jason @ fab's this week, to see how much i could get a v10 kit for :D :D

the trouble is, whilst i was doing this conversion, i swore to myself i wouldn't do another one, i'm getting too old !, and this swap drives so well, and tick's all the right box's.
but if someone came up with the coin........... 8)

Yeah, the V10s are pretty expensive... I know where there is one for 6K but thats without a gearbox
Think a friend of mine is getting notions of a S65 at the moment for his since I'm after copying him with the S54 :o:

I would have been getting rid of the S54 quickly myself recently too if I had some spare cash a month or so ago when a very cheap S62 with 6 speed box came up for sale over here but at least a mate bought it instead for a project of his.

I would think the 3.25 would be perfect with the 6 speed box. OK its slightly too short when compared to an M5 or E36 M3 Evo because of the smaller wheels on an E30 but in fairness the E30 was never meant to me a continent crossing mile muncher even if they are a pretty nice car to sit in on the motorway even compared to alot of newer cars.

If only I had the 'coin' as you put it. This would be sat in the chromie now. Loving the fad and the attention to detail.

I've not been there in a few months but they have a MASSIVE stock! There are several sheds full of spares, all stripped down and categorised. Everything from switches and relays to sections of shells etc. They have racks outside with engines on. Last time i was there they had various S50, S38 etc engines, a M coupe with a front knock and a slightly bruised V10 M5

You could use E9x 6-speed gearbox with the V10, should bolt right on.. (from the 6cyl engines). Not 100% sure was it the M3 'box or the 330i box, though.

It's been done already, many times.

This one is actually in stock E30 M3 shell, no irreversible modifications to the body were needed; http://www.youtube.com/user/matsivarson#p/u

Sounds just awesome! And has some power too..

I am not sure about this. What else can you do with that car other than tiptoe it round the bends (without traction control) or drag race somebody?

IMHO there is much more to it than just slapping a big engine in.
suspension, brakes, electronics.
What's the point having all the bhp and then driving on 1/4 throttle?.

With the S62 the E30 chassis is already on it's limits if you ask me. I would fit a traction control. Imagine driving in the wet....

No I totally take your point. It's really pub ammo isn't it. I still love the idea but in practice the s62 would more than do for me. :D

Sorry for OT..

Well, the S85 is almost 20kg heavier than S62 and 1 cylinder longer so the weight distribution won't be as good. Though the +100hp and the infernal sound judges the swap in my opinion :)

Now we've third E30 V10 swap (all of them made to M3's, one in USA, one in Sweden and now the third in Germany. One guy is middle of swapping the S85 to E46 @ driftworks forum).

Here's the info-page; http://wp1016621.wp027.webpack.hosteuro ... f01833.htm

And the lads on driftworks were complaining about the price of a little release bearing when fitting the box

Unless you are building an out an out race or competition car I reckon the S85 might be a touch too far for a road car but then again... There is slot if 600bhp turbo cars and the power of them would be far less smooth and useable.

My favourite S85 swap is the Dinan S85 in the silver M3 in the US with the hidden cage and all the E92 running gear.

I know the V8s and V10s are a total different kettle of fish but going by S50ed cars that felt alittle tame or underwhelming to me I reckon the bigger engines wouldn't be total monsters that would kill you if you even looked at the accelerator crookedly.

In saying that, I'll still probably be scared shitless of my S54 the first time I drive it :o

That car is NOT build by Dinan. The only Dinan bit on it is the stroker kit. Truely an awesome build costing 6 figures. And i bet it didn't start with a 1

Oh I know, I just said Dinan because of the engine bits. Amazing car though... The hidden cage bits as well as everything else are just class.

Fantastic stuff glenn, was giving an e39 s62 beans today and would love to see what that engine is like in an e30!

For strengthening the diff mount an easy option and less invasive than what I have been doing for my new mount is:

Thought the above might be of interest as it seems like a much easier option than getting and e36 back plate to fit :)
