I just got an m50 2.5 non vanos engine, the plan is to create a 3.0 using the crankshaft from a diesel m57 3.0. I have done a bit of homework, and both cranks have the same diameter mains and con rod bearings so it looks like they might be compatible.

any thoughts on this? :)

The end where the sprocket slides on is a larger diameter, and rather than one threaded hole for the pulley bolt, there are four, so its not possible to reduce the diameter as you would break through into the bolt holes.

I dont have the m57 sprocket for the crank, but looking on realoem its larger so no good unfortunately. on the m57 the crank drives the pump which is connected to the cams. As Barry says I should have just got the right one in the first place, damn ebay buy it now, I need to be more patient :)
