Well ive had it under the car and its a fail, the box fits but one of the pipes is touching the driveshaft, its too high and the bend isnt tight enough to clear :(

Here

Image

BUT ive had a torch shining through the tail pipes to see what direction they take, the peforated tubes go dead straight till about 3" from the end then curl up and out

This is the path it takes, perforated tubes go up to the red line then solid tubes go up and out

Image

The plan is to chop 3" off the box then weld the pipes direct, ie get rid of the curls, i could chop the pipes off but the bend would have to be 'very' tight to clear,
here we go again

Not sure why its designed like this?

Get it on Ebay, go back and get the Z3 system. You know that will fit. If you can get a complete Z3 2.8 system for around 200 quid, that's the cheapest you'll get it.

WTF was i on about yesterday cutting some of the box off etc...

Ive had it back under there today to double check whats what and all i need to do is cut the offending pipe down and weld it to the box

Needs to be cut here, i may need to shorten the other pipe a touch too to stop them hitting each other, simple stuff :D

Image

You can just see the scratches in this pic where it was hitting.

Image

I know what your saying about Z3 but If i went Z3 it will still need bodging on as the front section is too short, plus as you said id be £200 out of pocket, the Scorpion is staying :D

Just before i put the compact exhaust back on today i turned the Scorpion upside down and put it onto the end of the 328i centre section to see what it sounds like, i was expecting it to be loud and chavy but was very suprised, it gives a nice 'crackly' sound to it, not raspy or boomy at all!
Very happy 8)

BTW Andy the AFM turned up today, cheers buddy :thumb:

I set about chopping up the Scorpion today, 2.5inch off one pipe and 3.5 off the other, took some fettling to get the angles right but ive had it back under the car again and it clears with no issue's. :D

Ill let the pics talk :)

Do you know how much heavier the S50 is compared the the M52 (roughly). I remember you saying something about the head holds a lot of weight on them.

About 15kgs..

The S50 has a bigger head the the M5x lumps, so extra weight there.

To be fair though, my S50 was not a nose heavy pig by any means, but then it was hardly a boggo E30 chassis.. The weight will be less noticeable in an e36 due to engine position being further back relative to the front struts.

I was guessing around 40kg.

iirc the iron block M50 is 22kg heavier than the M52 alloy block (presuming the S50 block is similar to M50) Then the extra weight of the head, then throttle bodies etc V's plastic manifold. It all adds up...

In the real world id say its not that noticable but then again my compact gained 20kg going from M44 to M52 so going M44 to S50 it will gain 60kg over the nose maybe more as im using the smaller M44 gearbox compared with the M52/S50 box.
You wont notice the extra weight Dezzy 8O

Have you considered an E46 Compact? i hear the S54 goes in with ease :)
