Hi, going to collect this tomorrow http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight=

And would like to know how people go about the modding the gear shifter?

Also would my 320i pas pump fit the M30 engine?

Finally, what else will I need to do to fit the engine, different servo???

Usually fits in position 2 with no fouling on the servo.

My m30's an auto but pretty much sure you have to use the m20 gear linkage.

No your m20 pas pump wont fit.

Best of luck, looks like a good setup you bought.

Should look to fit it in position 3. Will be tight on servo clearance but should be enough space.

Will need an electric fan set-up.

Apart from that it should be plug & play i reckon

Use an M20 325i selector and linkage

320i pas pump wont fit

Standard servo and get it in pos 3

I might have a pump for you, I can't go in P 3 as my inlet manifold won't clear the servo. It's a try and see thing. If you end up in p2 like me then the hunt for a mk 1 golf servo is a straight swap and that will allow the fit.

Why use the mk1 golf servo though as the plastic wing'd clio servo is a much better choice

Can I not make the m20 pas pump fit? Surely someones done it.

Got an electric fan. How does that wire up?

Also, what engine mounts can I use?

Might have a go at fitting in a few hours time :)

You'll need the custom mounts that Lee sells or from www.e30.de and standard M20 rubber mounts.

I'm in P3 with the seam removed off the inlet manifold and standard E30 servo but it's a little tight. I would fit the clio servo as about, it'll give more room for doing the plumbing.

Electric fan can either be wired in correctly using a two position temp sensor in the rad and hard wired into the fuse box or as some have done just wire it up to a relay and switch.... the only time you really need a fan is when stationary..

Ignore the PM I sent you as this thread has answered it

Well it was a long round trip, 780 miles, 2pm till 4am.

Nice to meet you baz, you've got some nice projects on the go. Can you tell me how the fan you gave me attaches?

I wanted to know what rubber mounts work with the M30 motor mounts?

Tried to install the engine today but couldn't get it sitting on the mounts. I could do with removing the gearbox and a better engine lift. I got the engine a gearbox in together, but couldn't get it in position, it wouldn't go back far enough. Gonna give the bulk head a good bashing at the weekend.

What do you M30 guys have for:

just had small brakets and bolts holding fan into front panel, rubber mount wise I'm sure it's e28 535/m5 rubbers

brakes at the moment are 325

suspension is e36 alpina rear springs with e30 gaz adjustable shocks
e30 spax adjustable front inserts and jamex coilover springs and spring seats

all mix match but works well together on my car

Ive used M20 mounts and are plenty strong enough, to get it in pos 3 you need to remove the engine mount off the block on the exhaust side otherwise you wont clear the servo.
Lift the engine onto the rubber mount on the inlet side in pos 3, then refit the exhaust side mount when in position.

Im using Apex 40mm springs with Boge turbo shocks, it could be better but its passable. im on standard 325i brakes which for a road car do the job fine.

do you have any plans for this? ie turbo :D

Make sure you have the metal cups that go underneath the M20 engine mounts, helps keep them in place.

That sounds like it could work Lee, I'll give that ago.

What are these "cups" and where do you get them from?

Hope to go turbo about this time next year :D

I'd never seen the cup's till sunday on rav's car. Think it's a cab thing. I don't use them and had no issues.

It helps stop them "Flexing" so much, and might help over come the problem of the Manifold hitting the servo like yours does in pos 3 Marc.

It will only raise the height a mil or so, Won't make any difference to the servo clearance. I tried the e28 m5 mounts to see if the height made a difference already, but no it did not.

Just need to adjust the lenghthen the prop. Fit the fan and radiator. Fit the exhaust and find an airbox.

Does anyone know the prop adjusting nut size?

Also the fan that came with the M30 is the same size but thicker than the M20B20 one, and because of this it doesn't fit as it touches the engine. Plus I need to get the T piece and heater pipes.

That worked well for me Lee, thanks.

Chu, you forgot to cut the front pully off, thin will touch the rad, get a grinder, cut it along the "V" and it drops off.

The fan will need to be fitted in front of the rad. There is no room to fit a fan between the rad and the engine.

Thats the way I bought it.

This kit has been in two cars so it shouldn't be a problem. Doesn't the PAS pump go on that pulley?

My radiator doesn't fit. I think it's from a facelift 325i, but after a struggle to get it in position, the dizzy is touching it. I can fit my 320i radiator but I'm sure that won't be uptoe the job.

What options do I have?
E28 535 will have to buy new.
E34 535 will be about as thick as the 325i rad but easier to get 2nd hand?
320i rad won't be upto the job?

Either will do, Leeparkes ran his M30 with a M20 325 rad for ages with no probs, I have an E34 rad, no probs either.

as i said when you pm'd me with all the complaints about this "full conversion" i sold you.... the radiator you got is the one out of my car. EVERYTHING you got came out of my car and ran / drove perfectly . as i said i have the m60 radiator in my car now so there is no way you were giving anything other than what was in my touring. there should be no reason that this doesnt fit / that doesnt fit.

ive not heard from you regarding the spark problem either ? i presume you have the engine sparking now?
