Thinking of getting an e36 touring pretty soon, and am already toying with the idea of sticking an s50b30 in it along with body kit etc off the m3.

So, with that in mind, is there any base model that would be better to start with? And anyone know anything about wiring up an e36 lump into an e36? Imagine it will be easier than the m50 conversion!

Cheers

hmm £5200. probably worth that for the conversion but it's not exactly clean is it? lots of things i would want to change on it. could be very nice though.

on another note i have thought about shoving an m60 into an e36 touring.

It's something I'd definately do if my m3 shell became scrap fodder.

I'd just find a touring with a tidy body and interior in a decent colour combo and completely ignor the running gear.

Having both cars complete would make it a lot easier, I have no idea how plug and play the electronics are, but having the complete m3 means if the worst comes to te worst swap the entire loom
:D

If you start with a saloon you get to swap the mirrors and get the standard smooth skirts wich suit touring better than the sculpted coupe ones, I also thing the saloon contour wheels look great on tourings. Other than that there's not a lot in it, the bits you don't need from a coupe might be easier to sell or worth more though?
cheers,

harry

Think £5,200 is a bit strong for that one given a silver one which looked perfect to me sold for 4k with a rebuilt lump in!

Don't want to buy a predone one anyway for 2 reasons. Don't have the cash right away to do it. Idea would be use it as standard while I save and also, I am enjoying the m50 swap in my e30. Would rather do the work myself.

A 323i or 328i would be the best basis. Find a clean manual with the usual shagged M52 blowing all it's coolant out for £350-500. A mechanically sound M3 Coupe for £2500, sell all the entrails for a grand, 2 long weekends, job done.

As far as electrics, will the s50's loom plug into an m50/52's loom or need modifying?

I doubt very much that there will need to be any modifying of looms. The M3 engine loom should just plug in where the donor cars engine loom plugs in.

One thing is that if your donor car has ASC, this will need to be removed as no E36 M3 had it.
