Depends on the fan your using, if it is rated at 30amp's then 30 amp relay (40 then 40) and the wire need's to be capable to.

I cant see anything marked on the fan Marc.Its an aircon fan from an e34 if anyone its rating.

What gauge of wire would you recommend ?

Your fan is the same as mine so a lower amps as I found with the tester, 16 agw is fine as long as you use 1.5 meter's of it 30 amp relay and 25 amp fuse.

Think i can safely say the problem is sorted.

Wired the fan properly through a relay wire thicker wire and let the car heat up at idle to halfway,switch the fan on and the temp dropped and sat just off the 1/4 for a good 20mins .

Well chuffed its finally sorted.
I have bought a bmw 85-90 fan switch so will just need to find the plug for it at the breakers and get it all wired neatly .

Some good came out of it i suppose.I now have a spare e28 535 rad and a m30 head gasket kit in stock now :lol:

Got a wiring plug for the fan switch today so i can get the wiring done proper an do away with the switch in the dash.

Need a wee bit of help AGAIN with the wiring for the fan switch.

The wires for the fan are

brown
blue
black/blue


The wires from the fan switch are

brown
black/green
black/blue


Wondering how i wire the fan switch for the low and high speeds.
