I recentley sold my car on ebay and the guy has taken all week to contact me,Here is my problem the guy has no feedback, hes in Norway and I requested he give me a £500 deposit to my paypal account just to assure me he was a genuine buyer,I now have been sent this Email and not sure what to do,Im thinking that maybe its a scam but need some imput off you guys.heres the email he has sent me ;-
Hi Stephen,
I'm sorry about the late answer. I have used some time to find out about exporting the car from UK, and importing it to Norway.
From the DVLA site: "When a vehicle registered in the United Kingdom (UK) is taken out of the country for 12 months or more, it's regarded as being permanently exported from the UK. You can tell DVLA by filling in the section "Notification of Permanent Export" (V5C/4) of the vehicle registration certificate (V5C), and send it to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1BD. Keep the rest of the registration certificate, as you may need this to re-register the vehicle abroad. Your vehicle will become subject to the legal requirements of the new country when exported."
I know the registration plate is G73PJX. Can you also send me a copy of the V5C Registration Certificate (scanned / electronically)? This I need to ensure that you are the right owner and that the car is not stolen.
Regarding deposit of £500: On ebay it said "Payment on collection." I will consider sending you a deposit after I have received a copy of the V5C.
I prefer if we could communicate outside ebay, using ordinary e-mail addresses.
I would also appreciate very much if you could send me some pictures and more information about the car, and the history of the car, as you know it. The pictures used on ebay were not very high quality.
Is there any other rust on the car in addition to the rust on the rear wheel arcs?
Any input will be much appreciated

I'd just relist it. Tell him to come and collect it within a certain time period (where you'll handover the V5 and sign it over to him). If he says no, relist it and don't accept overseas bids.

I always talk via ebay and tick the "Send a copy to my email address" box so that communication is logged incase of a dispute. As for the V5C - I'd wait for some more advice....

Exporting is his problem, you bid, you buy and arrange collection. He should have looked into import/export details before bidding on a car from another country.
Just say, "with respect, I don't know you and if you arrange collection I will sign the car over to you and its yours. You have bought the car now as a legally binding contract through ebay."
As regards other pics and details just say I can send you more details but I would rather you come clean if your just messing me around....
I'll give you until the xxth of Sept to collect the car and after that I'll have to relist and claim from ebay.
End of the day the buyer assumes the responsibilty for his actions!
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

I was on the same thinking as you guys, just thought some extra advise on the matter would help reasure me on what measures I take. There is no way I am going to send a copy of my V5 as he will have all the details of the car and maybe be able to use them for fraud purposes.I will send him a message telling him he has bought the car and if he does not collect then I am reporting him to ebay and relisting it

Right here is my reply it is very blunt and direct as I cant be bothered being messed around anylonger and need the car gone asap
well here goes ;-
Hi regarding your Email, under no circumstance will I going to send a copy of the V5 as this can be used in fruad as they have all details of the car on,as of the matter of the rust I have been honest with the condition of the car on my advert on ebay,as you are aware the rules state on ebay that you bid and win then you have bought the item.I will gladly send you more pictures but you have still won the item so it is now your responsibility to come and collect,If you are now unsure that you want the car then you should not have bid on it as this is the impression I am getting.Regarding the deposit I said in my message that this was required as you are an overseas buyer and I need to make sure you are genuine.I also require a collection date of you so I can arrange to be around for you,If no deposit is made and no collection date made then the item will be relisted and you will be reported to ebay.

This is where eBay stinks! No ability any more to leave negative feedback for a buyer. He can't lose can he?
I'd just tell him to f*ck off and stop wasting peoples time. He's bidded and only THEN found out the complications involved. HE should have done his homework and HE should have found out what was what!
Raise a dispute and then close it in minimum time. You'll get your costs back at least. Then add him to your list of blocked bidders.
I'm really p1ssed off with eBay at the moment. Sold a pair of headrests cheap on there. I put all over my ads the terms and conditions in red and a statement, "if you cannot abide but the terms below, Do Not Bid!" This plum has won them and then gone on holiday. I've raised a dispute and he comes back, no apology, no "really sorry I dropped off", just "I'll pay you on the 27th". Well actually, No you f*cking won't! He won them on the 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife has bought a Dress on the 2nd from some women on there for the Goodwood revival next weekend. Paid immediately via paypal. It hasn't arrived
Now get this??? The ad has dissappeared all together from within My eBay AND off eBay all together. So the moneys gone, No dress and guess what? I cannot leave her neg feedback cos the item don't exist!!!!!!!!!
I've raised a dispute now via paypal and a week to go before an outfits needed!!!!
It's all a load of b0llocks I tell thee!

My missus has had 3 issues this week alone, two items sent are clearly mis discribed, arrived stained/dirty,one of the returns has now "vanished" in the postal system which can't be tracked over the weekend just to add to the hassle. The other one got all aggravated saying she NEVER had a problem in all her time, all her time?? all that 34 feedback you got?? my she is busy ebayer?!
3 item was a glowing teddy bear paid for straight away,a week ago, still nothing arrived.
Bloody wasters.

I hate eBay there nothing but a bunch of nobs either shill bidding up there own products or bidding on cars they have no intention of buying. I sold ma cabby on eBay and the winning bidders an arsehole turned up demanded £500 off cos the tax was running out and I didn't have a spare wheel in the boot. It's not hard the price you bid is what you pay!!! Work it out!!!! £8 insertion fee down the pan I'd be aswell to piss on my money and throw it away!

Did you include in the listing that there was no spare wheel? If I was interested in a car, I'd kinda expect there to be a spare unlesss previously stated.Hibsfan1875 wrote:I hate eBay there nothing but a bunch of nobs either shill bidding up there own products or bidding on cars they have no intention of buying. I know what you mean though. I'm currently selling an e46 325i in the 03 plate for my neighbour. There is NAFF all wrong with the car. It's a genuine gauranteed mileage 64k car with fully documented history. I have a guy turn up the other day wanting £750 off. For what???? I'd already dropped £250 as the tax is due at the end of the month. It ain't over priced, it needs NOTHING and find me a more genuine car? He was haggling over £250 (bear in mind this is a £5.5k car) in the end and walked away. He'll go and buy a shed for £5k and no doubt "get a bargain".

If I get my costs back then happy days, but I still have a car to get rid off ahhh well get it relisted again and see what gives.
I will keep you all posted if the guy sends any more emails
And once again cheers for all your help and comments at least I know I have done the right thing in the end

to be fair when listing anyt hign on ebay, you always have to cover your back and all possibilities of a messy situation/potential hasstle...and listing a car open to overseas bidders, is somethign you should not have allowed !
too many time wasters on ebay, and follow the right procedure and theyl refund the fees !

i bought my e30 off ebay...brilliant transaction..won it ona monday picked up and paid on the friday(previously agreed before i bid).and it turned out sweet..550quid for an e30 moredoor with 133k on clock..alpine white ..documented history and reg service intervals at bmw..m tech moredoor kit and council alloys..i turned up handed him 550 and he looked extremely surprised i gave him al the cash..he said he expected me to haggle it down..but i was more than willing to pay what i bid..at the end of the day it was a very clean well looked after car..i was more than happy..u do get some nobheads tho..i will admit it
Unfortuently ebay is getting worse every day. I use eBay for my business and its becoming hard work. I sold an E36 M3 on there last week on behalf of a customer. Car sold and I immediently sent a message congratulating the winning bidder and giving him my contact details. I got an email 2 hours later that said 'Hi, i won the car but I dont want it'. I was fuming and rang eBay and they said all I could do was report the bidder and I would get my final value fee back. Well thats great, what about the 2 weeks work I'd put it on sorting the car ready for sale, listing it and taking calls and answering questions about the car...all for nothing.
In realation to the OP's issue. Just be causous and use common sense. Get the guys deposit, and tell him to arrange to organise his own collection. Under no curcumstances send the guy your V5.
