Just thought i'd share a few shots of my car, it's currently being prepped for paint, the last two are the latest, it's just being masked up ready for the oven, getting very excited now, i'll try and get some more pics soon.

I can forecast tears before bedtime when some of the younger zoners see the rims on it with over-spray.

have 14 bbs's now and thinking about starting a collection.

does look good though, how long has it taken you to prep, did it need any welding?

Thinking about options for sorting out the touring and I'm thinking of just sorting the underneath first, welding, replacing lines, bolts, nuts, clips, bars, bushes and if any money leftover very doubtful new shocks and springs. Then save up again for the new panels and back to metal paint job?

a route worth taking?

I won't wish you good luck as by the looks of things luck is defiantly not needed on the resto.

It's just covered in dust no overspray, it took me about 4 hours in total to strip the car to the point you see in the pics, so far the car has been in since Monday 23rd, they only started working on it last Thursday, it's about to receive some high build. No welding required although there is a couple of spots which they will be doing at a later date along with door shuts etc.

managed a few cuppas though

btw I do like the Le Mans Classic, the word purposeful comes to mind.

Oooh, the cheek of it!!! Indeed it will be coming to the guildford meet and various shows next year. Need to save some pennies now to buy new trim etc and more importantly a decent drivers seat and dash, if these items exist, I also have a fair bit of other stuff to do on it.

@ trev, it all happened a bit fast, the guys at work just kind of said we want it in 2 weeks, so here it is, to be honest it's all happening the wrong way round but they're happy so I won't argue, the end result should be good.

Well, last night the guys stayed late and got the car painted along with all the bits and pieces including bumpers, AC valance etc. When I went across first thing it was being flatted and polished, I think it still needs some more but i'll be doing that myself. For the mean time though i'm chuffed to bits and can't wait to start putting it back together.
Sorry about the shockingly bad pics but I only had my phone and I couldn't work out how to turn the lights on in the prep area. :o: :o: :o:
I will get some better pics when I go back to work....Promise.

Next up will be a wheel refurb, the gutter mouldings and wasteline mouldings are being painted satin black for the shadow line look.

Looking good Steve. I have some genuine decrome gutter trims if you are interested. I may also have some front door strips also? Easier than painting the existing.

Cheers Trev i'll bare it in mind, what I do need is a windscreen, like a clown I broke mine when I took it out, really nice top tint one aswell, what makes it worse was that I only broke it when I was putting it on the windscreen trestle.

It is indeed from the SA snotter, it's been taken down to bare metal and new stonechip applied, it was actually very straight, I will be on the hunt for some front fogs, I need to save some pennies though, I have a couple of big detailing jobs coming up so that should cover trims, seals etc.

Cheers,It didn't cost me anything. I had it done at work for nowt. It's not perfect, but for the price I can't complain, it still needs some polishing and a bit of de nibbing.

I thought I would add a little update. I dropped my tatty drivers seat off to a very nice chap called Paul Bird at Surrey Trimming back in october and asked him to do what he could.

Heres's the result.

Image
Image
Image
Image

A freshly re trimmed sport seat. Paul said they really didn't have much cloth left, as a consequence he couldn't do my left hand bolster, it's no bother as that side is fine albeit a bit faded. When I turned up I was a little shocked at the colour, I initially thought he had the wrong stuff, he then showed me the old cloth which had a section that was tucked behind the seat back, it was a perfect match for the new cloth, he said the new stuff will fade pretty quickly so should match the old stuff soon enough. The little black bits are just fluff by the way.

Here's a pick of the cloth taken from the seat back against some from the thigh support, the thigh support bit is a part that is hidden so is unfaded.
Image

Here's what Paul started with.

Image

Quite a difference. I'm pretty chuffed with it and I now have a mint cloth sport interior, alost as rare now a good leather one, he did a really nice job, renewed all the broken piping aswell, can't wait to get it all back together now.

Cheers, I think it's a great colour interior and one that is rare in tip top condition, makes a change from the usual black leather interior I think, beleive it or not it wouldn't have cost much more to have it trimmed in leather, this is some damn expensive cloth and there is now little if none left according to the man.

Got the turd back round from it's winter slumber a couple of weeks ago to start work. All the interior has come out ready for a bit of scuttle panel welding action, I have to say I'm a bit hacked off with this as the car has been painted and I only found this problem after paint. The other reason for the dash out is to start fitting this.

Image
Image

Not the nice new gaskets.

Climate control heater box. It actually came out of a South African car and was covered in red dust, all appears to be in reasonable condition except for a broken lug on the laft hand side, can't remember what it holds up though???

Image

Heater matrix grubby but in good conditon, no signs of leaks, i'll take this to work and give it a once over in the parts washer.

Image

Evaporator, again all looks good here, a bit mucky but again i'll clean it up in the parts washer before I re-assemble it all.

Image
Image
Image

I might replace the expansion valve although it looks ok, just a clean out will probably be ok.
Image

Couldn't resist putting some of the new goodies on.

Image

Fresh out the bag!!!

Gave it a wash too, it was covered in polish and dust, to be honest you couldn't actually tell it has fresh paint on it.

Image

More soon!!!!
