Hi all

im currently building my track project and im wanting to convert to rear coilovers....
i understand some of you have done this, what coilovers do you have on the rear and have you strengthened the towers?

i have thought about putting independent shock towers in for the coilovers but thats quite abit of work as then i have to connect the roll cage in with these?

any helps appreciated

Do you have any clearance issues with the wheel and coilover spring Jason?

I had to run a 3mm spacer as the tyre rubed the spring seat adjuster with 16x7.5 alloys

Ahh so really by the looks of things I may have to build separate shock tower and move the coilover inbound in the boot. Hmm it's getting more expensive.

Depends what wheels/tyres you will be using. I have Gaz rears with the originally supplied Gaz rose jointed topmounts, not the offset ones. There is a clearance issue with the spring against the inner turret/breather pipes, but loads of wheel clearance with standard offset 15in wheels to use the offset top mounts to resolve this without fouling the wheel. I've used ET45 wheels on the back before (15in) so 20mm plus clearance if needed. Not aware of anybody building seperate towers, seems a bit overkill.

We developed the offset rear topmounts to clear the fuel breather system, which they do now

What wheels are you running?

Well the fuel breather pipes I would move no problem just for more clearance without the offset bushes.
I'm using 17x9s wheels only because of the size of the brakes I'm using. So space is really limited.

Just out of curiosity what size springs are you guys running?

I'm running a 60mm/150mm H&R. I just ever so slightly foul against the body. I'm not too worried about this though.

We're going to rectify this by grinding down the lower mount on the damper to pull it slightly away from the body.

I was going to fit 1.9" I.D springs on a set of Gaz gold coilovers. I'm just stuck on deciding the open and closed length of the coilovers.
Was thinking of moving the shock towers inbound slightly so that I can run wider wheels on the back.

Our Rear Gaz coilovers with non-offset top mounts fit fine, just clearing the fuse pipes. The bottom of shock is offset slightly, maybe 10mm, which maybe gives sufficient clearance?

You can see this in the RPM advert here..

I have a full set of leda coilovers for sale at the moment - very little use http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :MESELX:IT

anyway, when i fitted them i moved the fuel breather on the right hand side up towards the top of the coilover so it had loads of space - then re-attached it to the body with clips.
on the left hand side i made a new plate with the 3 holes in and welded it in to the top of the strut tower 10mm further out so the spring didnt rub the chassis rail.
notching the chassis rail would be another option but more work for no reason imo
