One of the fat owners of my E30 at some point in the past has broken the two angle brackets that hold seat back in place. There is one on either side of the seat with a large screw holding it to the arms that come up from the seat base.

Does anyone know if these can be replaced or welded, not sure what they are made of and my cars not here at the moment for me to check.

And i need it sorted asap.

Anyone had this problem?

This one's fairly common, ( and a MOT failure), and is caused by one of the screws you mention working loose, and then the other bracket getting twisted.
Usually possible to straighten and weld, but requires a fair bit of dismanteling for obvious reasons.
May be just as easy or easier to get hold of a scrap seat with worn fabric. and change the covers over.

Thanks Brian,

I was told a while ago that it was probably just the screws coming loose but i hadn't had time to check it out.

Last week i took the seat out and the back off to get a good look at whats happened. The screws where still tight but both brackets had broken where it bends at 90Ԛ°, i will see if i can get it welded without setting the seat on fire :clin:

Failing that, as you say try another seat.

Cheers
Phil

mine has done this on one side of the drivers seat. i'm tempted to drill and screw through the sedi, bypassing the bracket entirely. this may affect movement of the seat though... not yet checked.

however in my case, it's a proper touring sport seat in a tourer so no need to fold and if it's set right for me when i do it, who cares!!!

The frames are different between sport and comfort seats, so no good.

Hi Guys
Are talking about the same thing, just want to check, becasue my seat is starting to move left and right (slightly), instead of the normal forward and back. PS i am talking about the part where you back rests.
