Hello all,

Does any know of any difference between a Series 1 (pre facelift) electric mirror wiring loom and that of a series 2?

I have a bit of a unique problem in having an E21 with a 2.5 conversion. As well as motronic, I have had the complete series 1 E30 wiring passed over too.

No real problems, but am trying to mate the old E21 electric mirror switch to the E30 wiring with no joy. Did buy an E30 loom of a member on the forum, but this didn't fit and was just wondering if it was down to it being from a series 2.

Also if anyone can recommend a good auto electrician in the North West/Manchester area who might be able to do the job then that would be fab!

Thanks in advance,

Most E30 mirrors have only one electric motor in them, in spite of appearances. The second 'motor' is an electric clutch/gearbox that transfers the drive of the motor from over/back to up/down and vice versa.
I think I read somewhere that there are very early E30 mirrors which have two motors in each mirror, and it seems logical that the E21 would have had these as well.
The wiring loom, and especially the switching arrangements will be considerably different for the two types.

Note that my last post, with the exception of how most E30 mirror motors work, may be just something I've dreamt! Anyone else out there can confirm that the early ones had two motors?
