Locks stopped working?
Moderator: martauto
When I tried to unlock my car today from the drivers door, it wouldn't unlock straight away, took a while and then finally just unlocked the drivers door.
The rest of the car is deadlocked, now I cant lock it at all or unlock the passenger or boot, I think I may have deadlocked it accidently or something, when I hold the key in the deadlock position i can hear the central locking noise but nothing happens.... Does anyone know what the problem could be I dont think anything has broken...

I find the search function a pain as well...MooZ wrote:I can't find that post I've searched and searched, does anyone have a link?
Red/black wire mod.
Why do we do it?
Because the red/black wire is a perminent live feed wire and it makes a totaly un-nessesary trip into, and back out of the drivers door. This encourages the 'A' pillar connector block to corrode, spreading to all pins and causing general mayham.
How do we do it?
Remove the driver's side speaker cover and speaker.
Pull out the harness going to the 'A' pillar connector and locate the two black/red wires(on a cabbie, there will be three)cut them a couple of inches short of the connector and join the two ends that go into the harness together, using a soldering iron and covering the join with heatshrink tubing.

May be an instant fix,may not.MooZ wrote:And this should fix my central locking?
If still no worky, let us know and we can think harder.

By harness I assume you mean black tubing that goes from the pillar into the door? also I do not have a speaker in my door. I can locate the two black/red wires from pulling back this black protective tubing runnin from the door, which ends do I connect together when theyre cut? the sides coming from the door? or from the car itself? Also what do i do with the ends that are cut once two have been connected? Also I can't see your 'connecter' or whatever you talk about
I've just done the mod or what I think to be the mod, connected both black/red wires together, but to no avail, I can no longer manually lock my drivers door from the outside. whilst the rest of the car remains in a deadlock position
I need some help soon or my e30 is going to be inhabited by the local tramps! hahaha I think it could be mechanical now, as all the electrics in the door work and I can still hear it trying to do something when I put the key in deadlock position but it wont no matter where I turn the key it does nothing to any of the doors. not even manually lock/unlock drivers......

In my first post I gave you the nuts and bolt of the 'red/black wire mod.
There is no mention in my post of disterbing the conduit between the pillar and the door, the mod is done behind the radio speaker in the driver's footwell, pleae confirm that this is what you have done!
As you can hear the c/l relay working, your problem is possibly linked to the deadlock system, within the driver's door, held by the lock barrel is a micro switch,is this in place and functioning correctly?
Is the c/l solinoid on the driver's door adjusted correctly,so that the solinoid has ful movement?
Is the key turning the lock barrel, and in turn, operating the latching gear?

I don't have any speakers and the door card is extremely hard to get off so I did the mod on the conduit between car and door,, I can always solder it back together and wrap it up how it was, but I thought it wouldn't make much difference.
no idea how to get the door card off it just clips around the edge but then how do you remove the handle etc? there are no visable screws, also I could see a waterproof film lining between the door and the doorcard... I'd imagine that would have to be cut/altered to this mod too?

The whole idea of this mod is to eliminate the red/black wires from the pilar cooector!daimlerman wrote:I find the search function a pain as well...MooZ wrote:I can't find that post I've searched and searched, does anyone have a link?

To remove the door card;
Remove two screws from under the armrest.
Remove the mirror control and remove the screw now revealed.
Slide the trim around the door handle backwards to unhook it.
Popoff the trim clips around the bottom and sides.
lift the trim panel upwardsrealese the top
