I've been lusting over the job duties of E30_Crazy, part of which is being at the loud end of F15's taking off and landing
now I've talked a couple of friends into making the trip as there are public roads right next to where I'd love to be, also a few others have said they fancy it.

So I'm using this post to get ideas on when would be good for us and for the action winkeye

If a few are deffos and we can work out when, then I'll start a meets thread.

This is the post that started all this http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&start=25

Jay

Mods is this ok or should I just start a meets thread. Didn't want to say a date as I'd rather go when others can make it.

btw. he's at RAF Lakenheath

http://www.multimap.com/world/GB/Englan ... Lakenheath

and what to expect

http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk ... heath.html

Thoughts please

arent a lot of the roads near by where youd see the interesting stuff double yellowed / no stopping?

my mrs used to live pretty much next to mildenhall so i've driven around the area a bit but can't say i 'know' the area. there are quite a few people nearby who might be interested in the e30 side of a meet, and jets are always cool :D
cheers,

Much too far for me too - great pity :(
As I get older I realize that you can't please everyone - pissing everybody off is however a piece of cake

I've been in contact with Crazy_E30 who works on the base and there's designated a parking/viewing area and no doubt one or two other places to pull up. Wasn't thinking of a large space to look at each others cars more to drool over the jets comming and going, may even get a few shots off, the photgraphic kind of course.

it is a fair journey though.

Awesome to see all the interest.

Indeed, there is a a light you turn at, and double back alongside the road into a small car park right at the fenceline.

I don't know about Sundays though... We usually try to not work on weekends, and if we do, it's not always a fly day.

Don't know how this will affect attendance. I notice a lot of meets and track days are on wednesdays, so maybe some will be able to make it during the week. Or maybe mondays, as I know many places are closed on mondays.

I'm one of the lucky ones and can get time off for when ever, Wednesday would be good for me, would look at having lunch in the village if there's a good resturant?
Then maybe watching the jets? as no doubt 12-2 will be silent?

Again, I can't be sure about the flying schedule until we can get a date or two figured out. Once I can look at dates, I can tell you what times the jets are going. "Usually" They start from around 8am to 10am, land 1.5 to 3 hours later, and then again take off around 2pm to 4pm. Now, that's my squadron. There is another F-15E squadron, and another F-15C squadron. The schedule usually puts us all taking off one after the other.

All this, and it's all speculation. Like I said, I need to look at the schedule/ask some of my bosses. Shouldn't be any violations of secrets or nothing, as it's just training flights, and it wouldn't hurt any for people to want to know when to come and watch (that's what the viewing area is for, right?...)

I'm on leave right now, and on holiday back in the US. I'm catching a plane back on Aug 13th, and should be back the 14th your local. The 16th is the next monday, but I'm don't know if I can get a hold of the flying schedule on a weekend. I'll try, but I don't know if it will be too short notice for your guys? Then there's always the 23rd, too.

I've had a word with the man upstairs and have booked August 23rd 2010 to be sunny and no clouds over Eastern England.

If anyone else want to come along I'll be aiming to get there for 12 a spot of lunch?

The word is that we are having three goes all week, so around noon on monday should be around time for the second set. If not, you can always just chat for a while and catch the third go between noon and two or three.

yeah, deffinitely looking forward to meeting some people, or maybe just you! You will have to hang around for a while, or come back after getting something to eat after the jets. I am working a side job this next week, so should be a steady schedule. That means around 3pm I 'should' get a shift turnover. Could be out to the viewing area by 330-4pm.

Do you know where the viewing area is, or have any other questions?

Looking to go over in November for STS-133 winkeye

just hope I'm lucky enough to 'win' on the raffle for tickets.
Missed three launches due to being stuck on yachts when I was based in Ft Lauderdale and not seeing a shuttle launch would be a major pi$$er.

Ooo, shoot. Summer is a little too far for me. The jets will still be here and all and anyone is welcome to visit at their own choice (public viewing area) but I will be leaving to Alaska in May.

I grew up in Mildenhall and remember watching the aircraft take off to bomb Libiya in the 80's and having to stop lessons at school while the SR 71 Blackbird took off (that thing was mental)
Maybe a meet could be set up to coincide with Mildenhall Airshow if it still goes on every year? Just a thought.

Not sure about the airshow. I haven't been to it since being here, but that's not saying much, since I would probably working to make the airshow happen! Lakenheath wouldn't go to Mildenhall, being so close. We'd just fly out from here, do a few passes, and then land back at Lakenheath.
