I'll think about the mudflaps, I'm finding excuses to ignore the bodywork. it's not had a proper wash and no tcut or wax has been near it yet. Gutted the front wing I bought got scratched to hell in transit.

Naah, I'm debating if there is any point in a remap to take account of the larger M50 inlet manifold or not.

The arse dyno tells me it's quick and the 1/4 mile times have been respectable so far, i'm hoping that with a cold air feed and an empty boot, it will creep into the high 13's at the pod

Well some drama tonight. Went to pick the wife up at 11.30, picked her up after parking up & waiting for 5 mins. Set off and noticed when i rolled upto some lights that one of the brakes was dragging a bit. As I drove on a few miles it started dragging more until the point where the engine was labouring a bit.

Pulled in and couldn't see anything obvious all the wheels felt the same temp. Moved on about another mile before it became worse. Pulled in, driver rear smoking and the disc was glowing cherry red.

Had no tools or torch on me and this was smoking like a good 'un. Resorted to calling the RAC, by the time the dude arrived, it had freed off. As I pulled the car forwards a metal clang was heard. Was the spring clip falling off. That was re-fitted and the dude followed me home a couple of miles and no dramas.

Spent about 30 mins stood out in the dark chatting about the car when we got back. Will get the arse end in the air and check everything tomorrow to make sure, but the theory was that the spring clip or whatever it is called must have loosened and was possibly at a bit of an angle and holding the outer pad against the disc.

If its binding enough to cause the disc to glow and drag the car it will be the caliper holding on or handbrake shoes, spring clip isnt man enough to do this, the clang you heard might have been something on the handbrake shoes springing off

I concur. Remove the rear disc and check that the shoes are still in the correct place. I've had it before where one of the quarter turn screws has come adrift and allowed the shoes to move away from where they're supposed to be. It makes getting the disc off a real chore as they aren't held still.

it didn't cause my brake to bind however, I just had no handbrake on one side, that's the only reason I investigated it.

Yeah that's where I'm going to concentrate my efforts. Hopefully shouldn't be too much chew as everything in that dept is brand new, discs, handbrake shoes, pins, back plates, cables etc etc. So no ridge in the drum to conquer. My handbrake was a bit lame on one side so gotta be the prime suspect.

The spring clip probably made a bid for freedom after the nuclear reactor temperatures going on down there.

Well we had a look this afternoon at what caused the rear brake meltdown last night.

Nothing out of order with the handbrake setup, infact it actually needed a bit of adjusting outwards.


But the rear pads obviously showed how hot it had been, the splatter on the top is molten bits of steel from the disc



Anyway, nothing obviously wrong with the caliper, but gave everything a check over and greased the sliders up again with some copper grease and anywhere else it was needed.

Another natter with Dan and we went back to basics and got talking about when I fitted the master cylinder with the clio servo. Strangely I never needed to fit a spacer with this configuration. So it looked asif the master cylinder may have actually been pushed in a little bit, causing the brakes to actually be on a bit.

So the bar going from the brake pedal to the master cylinder arm was adjusted a bit and it seems to be running fine without any drag.

I don't know if it is me but the car doesn't feel as if it has quite as much go especially at the top end. I'm used to it just being constant surge to the redline but it just doesn't quite feel like it comes "on cam" if you know what I mean.

I may change out the fuel pump. Is there any point at all going for any sort of upgraded pump, or just stick with any old E30 fodder?

Got a quick stop by the frag yard in the morning to look for a leccy fan for Dezzy then up the road to his for some pish taking and bring another CR24v weapon into life.

The pipe from the ICV that goes into the back of the inlet manifold is such a shite fit, the connector doesn't really seem to locate. So I get occasional hunt up & down a bit when pulling up with the clutch in. Also it holds the revs when you come off the gas to shift gear. Did it in the touring too, must have an air leak.

New O ring (or silicone) and a cable tie will stop this, the clip in tab usually breaks off, I generally always cable tie them in just to make sure they are sealing properly
