Which car alarms are to be avoided.?

Stand well back and wait for every man and his dog to start bashing Clifford alarms :D

I've always had them and they're fine if fitted PROPERLY

leave the alarmed indicator flasher mode out. these are the best way to fuse most alarms.

when my xr2 was recovered i found some silver foil behind a side flasher bulb.also a hot wired fuel pump from the reg lights.

from experience it depends on the quality of the install in many cases - decent earth points, soldered joins not scotchlocks etc

If you do go with a Clifford, make sure it's fitted by someone who knows what they're doing. Cliffords are good alarms, but won't tolerate poor fitting and setup. This is the main reason people slag them off.

My last car had a clifford and at first it kept tripping the locks on its own. This was traced by the engineer who fitted it to a small trickle of electric in the central locking wiring. He was going to another BMW straight after mine with the same problem. Once this was fixed it was fine and I would highly recommend them.

They also do the sms thing you talk about as an add to the systems they sell

Cliffords are good, but if the monkey fitting it does not do a proper job, you'll have loads of false alarms and general grief.

In my experience, it's difficult to look beyond the Toad Ai606 as an excellent all rounder and the price is good too.

Looking at about £100 for the unit, £250 fully inclusive of fitting (including the system)

If you want an honest opinion on which alarm is best and causes the least aggro . Ask people who deal with lots of different cars daily , I.E traders, car valeters, mechanics etc.
Don't waste your time asking forum geeks who love flashing lights , jizzing over wiring diagrams and get a semi every time they hear a clifford chirping ! :)

PS Don't get a clifford !!!
