hi, i have a big problem today, my car has a immobilizer and alarm, also remote central locking, remote only unlocks and alarms the car, dont know why the remote didnt lock the car. Today the locks dont open even if i use the key, the key turns left and right but doesnt open the lock. the remote only works for the alarm and doesnt unlock the doors anymore. the boot opens but i stil cant get into the car because it is a convertible. it is also making a electric ticking noise near the door and front wing. what i dont get is why wont it let me open the doors with the key? my car is a 1989 320i. ..please help :(

Sounds like the barrel has disconnected from the locking mechanism :(

A way that AA / RAC use to get into cars is to place a wedge down the top of the door / glass on a convertible and bow it out slightly, enough to shove some parcel tape/plastic strapping stuff though the side and over the pin... then pull up..

BTW - The information above is aimed to help and is widely available all over the internet so please so comments saying its helping thieves etc....

Does the pin move up or down? or nudge slightly with the key?

Lift the handle as yo turn the key! Then do the red/black wire mod.

i just done some searchin and found out i9ts a common problem called double lock. i have been trying the lift handle thing, stil no luck, really thinking of breaking the lock cylinder by drilling through it or a chizel and hammer job. proper frustrated now.

Don't hit the lock barrel with anything it will just bend your door.

As Josh said, carefully pull/wedge the top of the door open. Just so you have 5-10mm gap to slip a piece of wire or plastic parcel wrap down and pull the pin up. No damage job done. Then you can get the door car off and have a butchers. 8)

Locked my keys in a few weeks ago and tried forever with this method with no luck. Popped the windscreen out in the end. Good opertunity to replace the chrome surround if its gone a bit rank
