Hello,
I have a 318is and have just changed the gearbox oil, i used a 80w/90w gear oil, is this correct, or should have i used dextron fluid.

Second, when i start my car from stone cold there is a loud rattling coming from the engine area for a split second, what is it ?

Thanks
Simon

Correct fluid for the gearbox is SAE 80-90 so you used the correct type, the dextron is for Auto's and use in the power steering.

The rattling sounds like the timing chain, not too clued up on the M42, but maybe changing the tensioner could cure it.
