i have bought a E30 318lux 1991.
when it gets to around 55000rpm / 6000rpm it misses and splutters. where is the limiter set on these?
i have changed plugs and leads. one of the leads has to be pushed through a pickup ring? what is that as that has a crack init, Would that cause my problem?
Thanks lee

A worn cam can give an effect exactly like a rev limiter in the M40 engine.

I've got the same as you and there's not that much going on past 5250 on mine.

Sensor around the lead is the equivalent of a cam position sensor. The engine will run perfectly OK without it, throughout the whole rev range, but will run slightly better with it.
