How easy is it to remove the engine sump on 325i, has a small hole in it from previous owner

Straight forward or a pain?

It's a pain in the arse to remove the sump on a 6 pot :(

The oil pump sits well down inside the sump, the engine needs lifting off its mountings so the sump can clear the oil pump and the front suspension subframe.

Pig of a job.

It is a pig of a job - but it can be done. - i done it last december - very cold.

Yr gonna need a range of 10 ml - i think - (mayb 11 ml) spanners, sockets (deep and shallow) - small rachets & loads & loads of patients. Yr stering rack will need to be losened, & to take the sump out under the oil pump will take a range of different positions - but once it done - it's easy to put back on - & will save u Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£'s

Give it a go & if all goes wrong call a mobile mechanic to finish it off :D

It's as Templ8e30 says, but as ;ong as you've got some kind of engine hoist (or lift the car right up, tie the engine to a beam/tree, and drop the car down a bit), then I can't agree that ut's that much of a pig of a job.
Unscrew the engine mounts nuts and lift the engine up. You won't hurt anything by jamming it up against the top of the transmission tunnel.
Just keep an eye on the radiator and its hoses.
You can remove rhe rad top mount and let it come up with the engine if you like.

I did this not all that long ago. I managed the job without the need to lift the engine and i only had the car on axle stands. once you drop the steering rack and removed all the sump screws, you can get to the three oil pump nuts and drop the sump with the oil pump in it. It did take quite a bit of "wiggling" to get the sump pan out. took me from 10am ish til just before 9pm. but i wasn't rushing.

Have a go mate!

hi there m8 it`s not a nice job but not the worst for sure. u dont need to raise the engine undo the rack or anything like that atall no way iv`e done it twice on my 320i saloon and 325i auto touring so dont worry to much just take your time and it will come out just undo the pan and twist it the right way and will come out ,very tight but it does come out without touching anything .good luck takes about 2 hours start 2 finish.
