ok, couple of things 1st..
i been offered a v12 for Ԛ£600ish with the auto box too. i know auto sucks, but v12 and cruise? is Ԛ£600 worth it?

1) i know v12 has been done, but how much modding work is needed?
2) is it worth it?
3) how much would a v12 from one of these 7's cost normally?
4) again, is it worth it?
5) any nasty probs this engine is known for?
6) would it be worth stuffing one under the bonnet of my sport when im in position to go p1ssin about with the engine etc?
7) who's volunteering to help me fit it if it all comes off? lol
8 ) will i have to run a different diff? (will a 325 one just fry under the torque)?
9) am i right in thinking that i will need the speedo cluster, ignition keys etc etc etc?
10) have i been drinking far too much coffee? thank you! :poke: :screwy:

far too much coffee.

why would you put one of those v12's in? for the sake of doing something interesting or for power? cos if its for power there is cheaper simpler options.

i guess one of the v12's is going to weigh quite a bit aswell? hows that going to fair up front in an e30?

still v12's sound nice.. if you do it. i forbid you from having any sort of silencers on your exhaust

why? coz by the time i get to the point where i sort my engine, a couple more grand aint gonna look out of place, so i may as well do it! (go the whole hog) power+different. if u can tell me where to get more power, cheaper and easier, without going turbo/supercharger then i am genuinely open to suggestions. its got to be BMW powered.
v12 soundtrack is cool tho yes, but quiet is the way forward..that way, when a punto gt pulls up thinking they are gonna give you a run for yours, in your "standard" 325, and you have a very quiet v12, nail the muscle pedal and leave them following your twin black drift-lines up the road!

Scott as far as i know the 4.0l v8 is supposed to be the one to go for, more responsive engine, bit more of fuel economy(not that should be an issue) I would also reckon on the 4.0l v8 being quite a bit lighter and easy to actually fit in the '30 engine bay.

The exception to this is the 850csi engine which was 380bhp iirc, don't think it came in the seven series though. Now that would be a monster with the torque to match.

Also worth considering the later 4.4 v8, but i don't know how much more Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£'s these are.

too much coffee is never enough, i'd say go v12

it's old and it's simple. hydraulic tappets, chain drives instead of belt, single cams and only 24 valves. doubt very much it has the EWS security system the later cars do so wouldn't need instruments keys etc. just the engine and loom. you'll get a whole 750iL for Ԛ£500-1000 on ebay if you have somewhere to put it

the v8 is good but less torque and without the sound quality!

Scott the only issue i'm aware of with the m70 v12 is the electronic thottles (2 throttles  ), they do break apparently and go for a lot even second hand.
as far as i know there's no mechanical issues.

i want to do this, the engine is not that long (something like m20 length i guess as it's pretty much two 2.5 sixes) and contrary to what most people guess, isn't too heavy because it's an aluminium cylinder block.

the thing stopping me doing it yet is finding a manual box to fit. all 750s were auto, a few 850s were manual but they rarely get broken up. i wonder if the bellhousing from an m60 v8 would fit the 12. but even then, you're looking for an E34 540i 6sp which isn't a common car

i want to do this. s50 power but with more torque

If there's a known problem with the throttles, it's a perfect excuse to replace them with 12 throttles!

Can only dream of the response and power you'd get from a V12 running on throttle bodies and a mappable ECU.

Yes you have been drinking far too much coffee.
First of all you say you can't afford to finish the Sport, yet you can somehow afford a Ԛ£2k+ engine conversion.
Secondly, it's probably one of the hardest conversions out there, so I guess rough costs are more like Ԛ£4k.

Have to agree its a god conversion on paper but a nightmare to get up and running.

Defo would NOT want to do a plug change on that either, absoloute pig in the e38 let anoner smaller bay of the e30

M60/62 would be a better choice but good running engines with any form of warranty are Ԛ£3K without the ancils... a new one from BMW is Ԛ£9K + vat

I cant, i was just brainstorming. I dont want to get into an engine install unless i know its gonna work and whats in store for me. I didnt look hard enuf into costs for the sport refurb the 1st time, so im learning the hard way and i dont wanna make the same mistake twice.

apparently there expensive to maintain, as they use two ditributors, to ecu's to coils etc.....that means that you need more room for everything aswell.

i looked briefly at this a while ago. i'll find the thread in a mo and put a link up.

heres my thread about it

i`ve seen a 750I sell for Ԛ£700 not far from me that was for whole car with tax/mot

Ԛ£600 doesn`t seem to bad a deal if the engine is sweet, definately an ultimate conversion for the e30, good luck with it Scott

yeah just thought if you can find a complete car then you are sure to have all the bits you need, also you can sell parts like leather, alloys etc to recoup most of what you spent on it

nobody wants e32`s now they can be bought very cheaply sometimes

unless u know the engine is sweet i'd buy a whole car, as matt says they do go cheap. and you can thrash it around to make sure it runs perfect before bothering to start the conversion!
