anyone who owns Hartge wheels will know how brittle/poor the caps are, new one's are out of the question they are NLA :(

the wheels look terrible without caps, so I thought I had better try something !

the design is terrible, the lugs that hold them in place are very poor and snap even with carefull removal, most look like this..

Image

I have some of these caps with missing lugs and after a bit of head scratching came up with a decent bodge ! :D

I am so pleased with this bodgery I thought i would share it !

a visit to the local scrap yard and a few volvo centre caps ! :)
Image

cut the middle out with a dremel,

Image

I then 'tidied' it up, using a grinder with a flappy sanding wheel ,

Image

Image

grind/sand and remove remaining lugs from the the Hartge cap,

Image

I love sikoflex/tigerseal :)

Image

left it for a few days to cure properly, and the fitment is great, much more solid than the original caps, and they can be removed without cringing !

tested up to 140 mph, they have stayed on for over 300 miles :D

Good bodge :D

I've got a couple of broken ones, did you use any Volvo caps or ones from a particular model?

Nice work! Interesting seeing E30s starting to turn the corner to proper 'classic' status where parts aren't necessarily available and a bit of ingenuity is called for. :D

Epoxy resin would have been another option too although thinking about it maybe the vibrations would cause some issues...
