Hi all,
Not be on here for quite some time so sorry if I'm asking a common question.

Will a 4.4 M62 (double vanos) V8 be a sucsessful fit into my 89 E30.
I may have been a bit short sighted in just buying an engine but it was a bit of a bargain.

I don't have an ecu, transmission, flywheel / clutch. Just a complete engine with engine harness and exhaust manifolds.

I've spoken to a couple of people who have said it's a no go as no one makes an engine managment sytem for double vanos V8's.

I've been advised to sell the engine, buy a donor 540 and just swap everything into the e30.
Shame if thats true as I really wanted the 4.4. :(

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
Cheers

P.S If I do have to sell the m62 how much do they go for?

This guy built his own vanos controller when he fitted an M54B30 into his E30. I have his OBC correction unit running in my car and it works well (non standard injectors). He is very helpful as well.

Ideally you will need the 4.4i engine management, EWS and keys. Anything is possible (there is a guy with a 27litre tank engine in a Rover SD1, also a V8 in the back of an old Fiat 500) but I know its beyond me....

Well, i think you've two options;
-Source M62 ECU and make it work in E30 (cheap and hard)
-Buy aftermarket ECU and get it mapped (expensive and easy)

Darn it!! no easy solution then.

I rang Emerald and they confirmed they don't yet have the ability to control double vanos so
I'll have to have a good think about the best way to go with this.

I have toyed with the idea of an E36 m3 engine but I'm a bit of a sucka for V8's and believe they are a bit pricey.

Cheers for the info.

E34 540 / E32 740 => 4.0
E39 540 / E38 740 => 4.4
840 had both engines.

Buy a separate harness with ECU and EWS, straight swap, easy! I did this with the M60B40 as my original harness was butchered!
Be prepared to spend £500 on the gearbox, flywheel and clutch, if you can find one that is, BBB has a 530i V8 Gearbox set-up for sale!

There's always the option of installing M60 wiring harness and all stuff related, and afterwards getting the engine mapped.

Fly-by-wire is no problem, as you can use E30 324tds parts with the pedal.

Thanks for all your info guys. Bit frustrated as I feel I've embarked on a complicated converson without doing enough home work.
My gut feeling at the moment is to sell my 4.4 and put the proceeds towards a donor E39 540.
As Willnz said I need to do a bit more research before I commit myself to buying.
