HI PEOPLE,CAN SOMEONE HELP ME. I Have A 1985 318i And The People I Bought IT Off Had Messed WITH THE ENGINE,AND ALSORTS IS WRONG WITH IT.MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT MY ENGINE IS OVERHEATING EVEN JUST STOPPING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. ANY HELP WOULD BE FAB.XX sorry for the caps,the button keeps sticking!!![/b]

If it overheats when stood still or in slow traffic the odds are the viscous clutch on the fan is shagged. When the car is warmed up, with the engine running stick a rolled up newspaper into the fan blades (DO NOT USE YOUR HANDS) if the fan stops the clutch is shagged.
New ones are about £30 from GSF or Euro Car Parts and you'll need a 32mm spanner to undo the nut. It is also a left handed thread, so turn the nut as if to tighten it in order to loosen off.

If you go to GSF, I'd advise spending a bit more on the "sachs" version, its BMW original part quality, same standard as you'd get from BMW themselves. Not saying the cheaper one is tat, but its not much dearer and E30s deserve the best right? Just changed to a new Sachs one on my iS.
