Has anyone noticed the article in this months PBMW with the S14 shoot out?
There were 2 x M3s and 2 x 320iS timed for 0-60, 0-100, top speed and standing 1/4 and the 320iS' were both faster over the 0-60 and standing 1/4 than the M3s. Would have expected the M3s to be quicker altho i suppose there's only as little as 7bhp difference between the two engines. Depends on the M3 specs.

Bugger... you beat me to it!
I was reading this last night and was suprised by the outcome. The bog standard 320iS with NO modifications beat all the others...!
Maybe it's because they are a short stroke...

I read that article about three times just to make sure it was right.
The big surprise for me was the tuned, race spec M3 was SLOWER over the quarter mile than both the 320is's.
It said it had 260bhp and proper khumo tires too, but did cover the 0-100 time fastest but by only .2 of a second.
They made out the the gearing is for track use not sprints, but it had atleast 35-40 bhp on all and race suspension. Strange.
But looking at the 0-60 times, all above 7 secs and the std 320i being the quickest, i would have thought a mildly tuned 325i could give them all a close race.
Still did you read the article on the V12 6.0litre hartge 5 series, 485bho!!
And the M3 turbo......I want one....but not the bill for it!

I had thought maybe the gearing was altered on the race M3, but i don't even think it was fastest flat out (might be wrong, can't check coz i was reading it in Smiths).
I'd forgotten about the V12 E34. That must be an animal.

The race spec M3 topped out at 117mph, but it does say that it is geared to cover the 50-115mph gap of which it needs when racing. Still I would have thought that it went quicker than that round some of the circuits.
I'm still in shock over the turbo M3, running a S14 too, that is a lot from a 4 pot! cue the 4 pot massive!
Best bit of mag is the inside of the back cover, Bootymans cabrio and Dips 335i M3 turbo are all in next months issue, can't wait!!

I had my shoot yesterday and one of the above mentined 320's was there. It belongs to Iain Curry (Editor for PBMW) It's a left hooker from Italy and is really nice. He's just got it after smashing his E30 M3, so i'm sure it will be quicker and look even better over the coming months when he starts to mod her .

Wayne Howlett is the guy I boughtmy 320iS off - a real nice guy
Will Fields works for Geoff Steel Racing, and he used to look after my 320iS for me as they aren't too far away from where I live.
Intersting article though. Makes me want to go buy another now! Grrrrr!
Ben, how did the shoot go..? Have fun...? Get a nice PBMW sticker to slap on your windscreen...?

G, the shoot went fine. I didn't really have much to do. The phtographer just took my keys, drove the car onto the runway and snapped away for 3 hours solid. He must have taken litrally hundreds of pictures from every possible angle imaginable. It was bitterly cold, so i sat with the girlfriend (Ex as of last night) and my mate in his car just waiting. He did take a few of me blasting down the runway though. I couldn't really go too mad because i'm still breaking the engine in. I also had to do a few pic's taking a really sharp corner at nearly full pelt. That was not fun cause i hate roughing up my baby, but the guy was really brave cause he was set up right in the middle of the runway and eveytime i came round the corner i was missing him by inches. Good day out all in all. Lets just hope the pictures come out good.

Hi , my car is the standard black M3 in the PBMW shoot , it was a great day out but my only timed run was my first up the track and at about 120 I was looking for the exit as Ive not driven Bruntingthorpe before ! .
On the day the timing gear was playing up so we only got one run each and I know that the White car and Wayne's 320IS wasn't trying too hard on that run .
It was a great day out but a shame about the times .
Steve .

Aaaah, cool.
I bought a 320iS from him a few years back. Was a real pleasure dealing with him. Didn't seem to mind putting himself out for me when I requested to take the car from him at an earlier date, and knocked money off the purchase price when I offered to sort a little bit of paintwork out that needed doing myself, which he didn't have to do...
Would definetly buy another one from him, in fact I might do that when I get bored of the Sport...

Most people will think I'm biased due to him being a friend but I have to say he's a fair man to deal with , very helpfull .
He really loves these cars and is a big petrol head , we replaced the rear bushes on my black car yesterday and he took me out for a test run on our local roads and he's just soo fast and controlled ! .
I've bought a few of my M3's from him including the black one in PBMW and the've all been great cars .

I remember when he took me out for the first time in a 320iS round the country roads where you guys live... he scared the cr*p out of my Dad who was sat in the back...
- He can definitely drive!
Wouldn't mind going round a track with him...

I think we're going to Snetterton the end of feb he'd always take you out in his car , he enjoys passing on his knowledge I'll let you know more when I get the date .
I must say we're very lucky here with the roads , I work nights and always take the long way home in the M3 and sometimes never see another car ! .

Does anyone ever see the 320is for sale anywhere? I'm in the US and I have got to wonder if there are any that have been brought to Canada for me to get at...

Go to www.320iS.co.uk - Speak to Wayne, he may be able to source one for you, or even ship one over to you...

Heh, wow. Thanks. I definitely want to look into it and see what the costs of doing such a thing would be.

Thanks. I will at least e-mail him since I'm in the US. My goal was originally to get a 320is since my friend was telling me about his amazing E30 M3 that he just modified (I can give specs and pictures if anyone's interested). I quickly gave up this notion since I figured it'd be way out of my price range to look for a 320is halfway across the world. I've since decided on a E30 318is but since someone's put the time into exporting 320is's, I'll have to see what he can offer.
Thanks again,
Charlie
