Do BMW MAKE A E36 COMPACT 318IS AND would the engine fit into a e30 318is this is what i have been told buy the guy who is selling an e30 318is with a e36 engine.
My old IS had a black headlining which is the correct spec i think this car has a dark grey.

it depends on what engine its got, if its a M42 then its the same, you need to get the vin number and take it to BMW to find out what it really is.

The guy said the engine came from a e36 compact 318is,but as they dont make a 318is compact it must be the 318ti is that the same engine.

318Ti Compacts come with either an M42 or an M44, I've an M44 here if you need to know anything specific.
The earlier 318Tis had the M42, up to around March 1996. Bizarrely, the M44 that I have was registered earlier than the M42 I have.

The info i need is the orginal IS motor is a m42 i think, this guy has put a compact 318ti engine into a e30 IS.
I need to know can this be done and is the car still the same now as being a non standard engine in a 318is.
Would the performance still be the same.
If i bought her and somewhere down the line i decided to sell would it be a load of trouble with not having the correct spec.

i'm not 100% on what engines were used in e36 compacts etc, but as long as its a twin cam motor (ie, not an m40) it should be fine

I have just had a chat with the bloke, sounds like a nice guy cost him Ԛ£1400 to buy the engine take the old 1 out and bang a new 1 in.
He says there is no rust paint is alittle faded leather is okay tyres are okay genuine alpina alloys not the best but okay.
Needs front end suspension bushs and new disks its moted and taxed.
So i am going to bite the bullet and pick her up friday and hope for the best its not alot of money anyway.
Cheers
