Dont use the solenoid mate. Theyll screw up in no time (as ive been told). Use a remote central locking motor which is what im doing at the moment. Will help you out once ive done mine.

Finally installed my door popper/remote central locking kit. The remote door control popper is temporarly on the passenger side to test it - this is going to be moved onto the drivers side when complete. Pleased with the result and an original bmw looking key

Have a look at this mate, uploaded a video of mine....

my only worry is that what if the battery goes flat?
have you made any thong up to allow access if there was no power?

Apologise for the late reply, yeah just like cypriot_boy_2k7 said, you can get into the bonnet (the hard way) or relocate the battery to the back (easy way) which still opens with the key.

I've thought about that before - I was going to get a small waterproofed conector, and mount it out of sight somewhere like the wheel arch, so if the worst happened, pull that down, connect jump leads/other 12v source and unlock the car!!
Would only be a small current to open the central locking, so just a little fuse.... etc...

After that, i had a thought in case the solenoid/whatever packed up, i would have an alarm fitted that can be set so one button on the remote, rolls down the drivers window, so you could unlock the door!!! (I'm assuming you would de-lock at the same time!!)
