Right currently on t1r 195/45/15 which are not to my liking, understeering. Should I go for 205 width, or go for a different make, maybe r888? Or ado4?

205/50 R15 on a 7Jx15 rim. Toyo R888s get good reviews, as do the Dunlop D02/03 tyres (can't remember which is in that size). I use the Advan AO48, but it's not the best semi-slick tyre out there at the moment.

£437.75 for a set of r888 in 195/50/15 fitted. Bloody expensive! I paid less than half that for my t1r's. Decisions decisions.
Tripple 8's have near doubled in price in over a year now the cost the same as dunlops or Yokohama so it more a case of what you get at the right price

Out of stock so going for Yokohama ado4 instead, less than 360 quid aswell. Have to see how they cope.

You might also want to consider some more front camber

Well the Yokohama tyres have transformed the car, only did 4 laps in the dry but lapping much more smoothly, so much more confidence in the car and can pile in the power so much sooner than s drives or toyo t1r's. Had a drama with tyre pressures tho, pushing on of the corners front steering went light, when back to carpark and pressures had gone up to 40 psi, dropped to 30, out again and checked them straight away and they had gone up to 40 again! Need to get nitrogen filled soon. And in the wet had a play on a round about, and they have more grip than the toyo's.
Nitrogen just gives a more stable tempature as it is moisture free, it does not reduce the tempature I doubt you would get much benefit, you just need lower pressure to start with.

The steering went really light mid lap,'strangest thing, only thing i could put it down too was the tyres going off as so hot and high pressures
Quite feasible. Higher pressure will "balloon" your tyres out, placing the majority of your cars weight over the middle-most region of each tyre, resulting in a loss of traction at the first opportunity. Letting out some air allows the tyre to collapse slightly, presenting a flatter tyre surface to the track, thus increasing the contact patch back to normal. You'll learn what's right for your tyres as you go along. Carry one of those pocket tyre pressure gauges so that you can check what works best for you.driftmonkey wrote:The steering went really light mid lap,'strangest thing, only thing i could put it down too was the tyres going off as so hot and high pressures

"It is amazing how many drivers, even at the Formula-1 level, think that brakes are for slowing the car down." - Mario Andretti
We run our Yokohama AO48s at about 30-31 psi hot. Any more than that and it cooks the tyre, burns out the centre tread. Our old AO32Rs we ran at 35-37 hot.

My local tyre place got them in. Couldn't get r888, none in stock and there wasn't a forecast date of delivery either. Not used r888, I had Toyo t1r's before on the car, the yoko's are my first set of track tyres and I wish I had bought some years ago. They are 195/50/15 and were 360 pound fitted. Over twice the price of t1r's but worth every penny. Not noisy on the motorway either like I expected. Just have to see how long they last next, so far over 1000 miles and 4 dry laps one wet lap of the ring. If I can get one of those wireless tyre pressure gadgets cheapish I will invest in that very soon.

Currently being used as my everyday tyres and they are fine, no extra road noise, plenty of grip in the wet. But with the colder weather coming, they would be no good!

No real surprises here; T1-Rs are road tyres, 888s and AO48s are track tyres. Road driving will never heat track tyres up enough to give their best grip, (dry) track driving will always melt road tyres.
As a recent convert to slicks for trackdays, I'd be looking at Maxsport RB5s, or going to 17" wheels and using ex-BTCC slicks (around £100 a set on eBay).
The Maxsports are road legal too, so good for the 'Ring (and annoying clueless coppers
