I'm taking the head of my 325 to replace brocken rockers and everything was going fine until I tried to remove the fan
I'm aware that it's a left threader and that I need to turn it clockwise to undo, I've even bought the special 32mm spanner. Every time I give it a sharp tap the belt slips allowing the whole thing to rotate.

is it possible to clamp a set of grips onto one of the auxillary belt pullies, without buckling the pulley too much? I'm sure I did that at one stage when I did the cambelt change

300mm length of 25mm X 2mm flat bar.
Drill a 6mm hole near one corner.
Remove one of the pulley bolts and replace it with the flat bar included. (May have to use a slightly longer bolt.)
Turn pulley with 32mm nut untill flat bar locks up against the pulley, and then unscrew fan.

I've tried the grips on pulley-didn't work for me.
Brian I like your thinking, I'll give it a go if I can find a suitable bar
.
It's really frustating as the previous owner had a lot of head work done including new fan?? and I thought it was going to be easy
Cheers for the tips peps.
UPDATE.
I found the perfect bar bolted it to the pulley and.... it sheared off, not really a problem once I finally get the fan removed.
I'm now going to try wrapping my oil filter tool around the part between the pulley and fan....
Am I definetly going the right way- clockwise looking from the front of the car???

When taking my engine apart for the first time when the head went it took me about 5 hours to get that bloody nut off.
It took lots of heating plus me holding it with grips as tight as I could while a mate hit it with a hammer as hard as he could.
