i have a problem where on many roads i feel very unstable, as if at any moment the car could slide off the road sideways. It does often pull from left to right suddenly with no movement of the wheel. does anyone have any idea what this could be (is it called tramlining??) and how i can fix it?

thanks

if the car is swrving WITHOUT the wheel moving at all then get under the sucker and check that out!!

theres no way that can be good, and u dont want the wheel to come off in ure hand now

damaged rack, coupling , arms broken, missing bushes, dampers dead, god knows

thanks johnono, its more that it just drifts like it was on rails or something, or being pulled straight sideways on a rope, rather than a swerve, i dont think the wheels actually change direction, the car just drifts!!

bbs should be on 205 55

this might be worn rear subframe bushes, it can give the car a loose feeling at the rear

Get under the car and get someone to rock the back up and down, look at the subframe if its moving with the car then its not the bushes.

Hmm our 15" BBS tend not to tramline much on decent tyres, im running 50 profile fronts and its still fine. The old 4 pot tramlined on 15" 195/55/15s tho so i dunno :?
Anyway tramline is when you drive over a raised bit of the road or say a painted line and youll feel the tyre track along it, what your experiencing doesnt sound like it!

thanks alot everyone for the advice. sounds to me then that it might be worn subframe bushes. i will check them out asap. must also find out what tyres i run!!

6potwil, thanks for clearing up the definition of tramlining, i dont think my problem is tramlining in that case. although it probably happens a bit

many thanks again to everyone who contributed
