Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated (and cost saving!)
I have a 1990 Alpina C2.5 Convertible which I would like to replace the springs and shocks on. The Alpina replacements are cԚ£1,000.
I would like to get an aftermarket kit (Bilstein probably) but am not sure if this will fit directly onto the car.
The car does have Alpina top mounts fitted along with the full suspension kit.
Has anybody changed the suspension on an Alpina, can an aftermarket kit be fitted, and are there any other components that would have to be changed to allow this to happen.
Thanks for your help.

i would recommend the bilstein inverted sport shocks they are nigh on the best bar coilovers.
H&R- 35mm springs. To my knowledge this would be better than the alpina set up as the shocks are more modern design and auto adjust on bump and rebound, which means u can match them to any springs.
I only recommend this setup as i run this and find it excellent. The ride quality is not too harsh and no worse than m-tech if u have experienced this
u would have to check id these springs and shocks are catered for a cab.
The price of this lot would be Ԛ£110 for the springs deliverefd
front shocks Ԛ£150 each
rears Ԛ£90 each
so a total of Ԛ£590 and i know of places that would fit this for u for Ԛ£120 if u couldn't do this yourself
as u can see this is better and alot cheaper than the alpina stuff. I'm sure no potential buyer would be upset at these choices as they are a very good option

Simon has basically hit the nail on the head.
H&R springs are very similar to the Alpina design - progressively wound and around 35mm drop. They are much more comfortable though.
I had a C2 2.7 and when i Changed to H&R it was much better!
The shocks I used were the bilsteins as mentioned abopve and they are brilliant.
You can buy all of this from the E30zone shop.
If you want the Alpina top mounts youll need to go to BMW.
There is also the H&R Cup kit which is sublime and not alot of money either. The shocks are still made by Bilstein but are not the inverted type.

I'm curious. Can anyone say what the difference is with Alpina top mounts compared to stock. Thanks.

they will be stronger, i expect it is the rears?!
as standard e30 ones are proper pony, never heard of any probs with front top mounts, only issues with camber when lowering
i would use e46 m3 cab ones on the rear much better than ut normal ones
