Hi folks

Question re steering wheels - the one on my 88 Touring is like a bus! What is it.... 380mm?

Are there any other smaller BMW wheels that are a straight swap?

E30 M3? E36?

Thanks

Smaller M tech 2 or M Tech 1 in 370mm disguise.

The one you have is probably the 385mm one.

Or you can go aftermarket and fit a MOMO one with the correct boss. (Happen to have one for sale winkeye )

E36 wheels will definitely not fit. Early E34 steering wheels will fit.

Can't access eBay at work so can't tell.

The way to tell the difference between E36 steering wheels (which will not fit) and E30/E34 steering wheels is the spokes, on the E36 they are slighty bent whereas on the E30/E34 steering wheels, they are straight.

Tech 1 and 2 wheels in 370mm form will be an improvement. About £250 new from a dealer, or sit and wait for a good nick second hand one to pop up. Still, pricey though.

Alpina, hartge, schnizter wheels too. Again rare, but the later alpina one is stunning and available new, as they'll be very uncommon.

Then you have aftermarket wheels.

Finally, E34 pre-facelift (non-airbag) models will fit, but they are all 385mm bus spec iirc, which is where the larger Tech 2 wheels come from.

That one on ebay then was not from an E30 M3? The splines are angled. If it fits on his E36 it is NOT going to fit your E30, and was not from an E30 M3. Tell him that and see what he says. 370mm wheels were available for the E36 so size alone is not enough to go by. The boss is completely incompatible and cannot be modified.

For some reason there's a rumour the wheels are interchangeable, they're actually just a similar design.

And no, not even early E36 wheels are interchangable
