carpet dying

any one done it recently to no of the top of there heads the proceedure to do it as wanting to dye my grey carpets black asap .............thanks or is there a thread showind or stating how ?

Done my Cab one recently.
You ideally want a dry, sunny day.
Give carpet a good vacuum. Pour dye into a spray bottle.
Spray a small area of carpet with dye, brush in with a nailbrush.then
move onto the next area until finished. Leave to dry. You may have to repeat the whole process,
depending on how well it , the dye, takes.
Much easier if you remove carpet from the car, make sure you have all windows
open if you do it in situ.
Oh, and wear some Marigolds.

and take the seats out cover everything you don't want dying and definitely wear some marigolds

The dye shouldn't take to this anyway and will just rinse off. You can then spray this area with vinyl dye.

The only thing to be aware of is that some later E30 carpets are polypropylene and WON'T take dye at all. It pays to test on a small sample (carpet kick panels if you have them or cut a tiny piece off near above the pedals). This will also give you an idea of the final colour and how many coats you will need.
The earlier cut pile carpets are nylon and dye nicely. I even got a good result dying my beige carpet to black.

I took my carpet out of the car and gave it a good blast with a high pressure water cleaner - the carpets are tough and will take this treatment and it ensures a good clean starting point.

I applied 3 coats of dye - basically as much as the carpet would take. It will stop absorbing dye after this.

I also gave the carpet a good rinsing off afterwards (hung it on a clothes line) to get rid of any stray (not absorbed) dye. You don't want it all over your nice white Romes

have a look at my cab pics in the photo section, this was after a single coat, I did two and the carpets look very dark grey but you'll never get it true black.
