I think I am going to go full OEM homo and I would like to replace my alpine head unit back to the original E30 tape deck... :o:

Is there a way to get an ipod to work off the original OEM tape deck?

Or can you suggest another oem looking radio that will do the job? Maybe out of a later model BMW.

Rob (gooner1) found a link to a site that gave instructions for adding an iPod input to an old radio cassette. Just did a quick search and couldn't find it, but will have another look for you.

It is dependent on you being good at soldering / fearless in the face of pcbs, however

There you go :D

My thoughts about this were to fit a mini Jack socket into a blank on the run of three switch positions (where the hazards, rear de-mist etc) are, so that when you're not using your iPod, you're just left with a neat little socket that doesn't detract from any oem homo aesthetic

No, I didn't, Mike, but my other half is hopefully collecting my old oem radio for me tomorrow (it's hundreds of miles away from where I am) and I have a spare switch blank in 'stores'.

If the plan comes together I'll do a write up / pictures / report back to you :D

Would this radio from Germany work?

Do all countries use the same radios?

As far as I know, radios are internationally interchangeable. I think you're getting mixed up with the PAL / NTSC division you get with video products.

Does that one have an auxilliary input? My German doesn't get me much further than ordering beer!
