Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the purchase of a new exhaust catalytic converter for my mothers August 1993 BMW 325i Touring E30. I have the Lamba sensor. Any help would be really appreciated where she can buy this part, as BMW have quoted her £1100, and she really wants to keep the car going as she adors it. Is it the same as a Convertible or Saloon, as she has seen them for sale on eBay, but have not mentioned the word Touring in the advert.
Many thanks in advance.....

All are same so not touring specific.

Late reg , do you know the production date ?? it may not need one for its MOT.

I've thrown probably 10 away in the last month, scrap price is good .

pop a wanted ad up, or follow Dave D's advice and go outside the box .

There are ways around this. The earlier non cat emission limits apply if the build date of either the car or the engine is pre August '92. If the engine was changed for an earlier one, or might have been, but can't be identified because there are no markings on it, then the earlier limits will apply, and no cat will be required.
Other ways around it are to convert it to LPG, which burns so cleanly that it will meet the limits without a cat, or to fit an type of engine that wasn't fitted as standard by BMW, such as an M30, M42, M50, etc., so that the spec. will not appear in the 'list'.

If this condition is met, the MOT tester won't need to be dodgy.
