Have you got any pics of the exhaust yet? :)
I`ve still got mine to do i`m going to be using a E36 sebring back box (which is on the cab at min)got the E36 cat on aswell at the min but want to do away with the cat.
I wanted to make it so i can remove centre box from the mani`s if needed.(speed humps are criminal round here!)
Looking for ideas. Was going to try and use the original down pipe connections but not sure if it`s going to work very well.

what do you want pics of? the manifold, the system or the whole lot?

I have not taken any pics of it as I just wanted to get cracking and get it fitted, so the only pics I can do now are ones of it fitted.

Just wanted to see how the pipes were ran from the mani`s down to the front pipes and how you`ve joined them and what sort of middle box you have used.
Was thinking of using a standard M20 centre box?
know what you mean about the camera, thats why i havent got many pics. :o:

If you're referring to the MK2 golf Maurice, that's the wife's car.

I'll see what I can do on the picture front and post them up. (currently still at work, grrrrrr)

I like how you can see all the guts underneath on chromie's

There's a pic on here somewhere where someone removed the wheelwell to expose even more guts like the diff/shafts/etc..

iirc the car was orange though :?

Are there any tips with this coolant system bleeding malarky as I don't seem able to get hot air at the vents. I have filled it from the rad top hose.

Also, I have yet to wire in the electric fan

What relays/ terminals am I plugging stuff into on the fuse box Dan?

I also have no tacho or MPG swingometer thingy.

I shouldn't have as I asked Dan before I fitted them up, but I can't remember which one he said connects to which heater pipe now

Back of head to bottom pipe, Relays K1 and K6 and fuses 3 and 18, check the fusebox page in the wiki

Cheers Dan

IIRC there is one separate wire I had to connect up and crimp too in the fusebox area, as in the pic below, where does that fella go to?

Image

Also, any ideas on the lack of tacho? I'm using the same cluster that came with the car, all I have done is change the coding plug & change the fuel gauge.

The crimp connector goes to the wire from fuse 19, im sure you will remember when you open it up and see whats what

As for the tacho and mpg you will need to run a couple of wires across the dash, or break into the ecu wiring on the loom and wire up to the clocks. Im just hoping your ECU wont want to know the road speed...

If it wants road speed does that mean retro-fitting ABS?

What's different on this car from the touring that is causing this?

What's the easiest/ most reliable thing to do with this tacho wiring then (considering it's me) the "running a couple of wires across the dash" sounds more up my street. Where am I connecting from and to mate?

No just an extra wire from the clocks into the engine loom

Similar story with the tacho/mpg gauge

Yeah, I sold the engine, box and carb for £75 just to get rid of the lot otherwise I knew I would have just ended up tripping over the M10.

Got warm air at the vents now, so just got to wire in the fan, I HATE doing electrics.

Then rear bush void fillers to fit and a few fanny about jobs and she's about there.

Once i got my head round where every thing went, wiring the fan was fairly straight forward.
I had a dodgy little drawing of how it all went together. Then with it all in front of me it was easy to see how to do it. :)
Then a nice little woo hoo when you start the car and the fan kicks in 8)

Well folks, after some telephone counselling from Dan, the fan is all wired in and kicks in about a needle width above 1/2 on the gauge.

Have succeeded in burning my thumb when loosening the bleed screw on the top of the rad too far, so had a jet of hot coolant spray all over it, smarts a bit :-x

Been to the end of the road & back a few times, she feels lively. A couple of clunks coming from the front end on bumps etc, so some double checking of everything needed there.

I have succeeded in scraping one of the manifold downpipes already and I think I have caught one of the welds as I can hear it farting/whistling now :-x But the major worry I have is that it is smoking a fair bit. Only does it when it is right up to temperature, but it is noticeable. A bit puzzled by this as I had no smoke when it was in the touring. I'm hoping that maybe the M3 exhaust system had oil in it which is burning off when getting properly hot, but maybe I'm kidding myself there.

Hope it isn't something internal as to be honest, I think I'd call it a day if it was. The engine is a 1999 steel linered block with and has only done 70k. I don't have the oil separator gubbins fitted with the M50 inlet, but nor did I on the touring and can't recall that smoking. Please please no more drama :?

Everything will need drying out a bit to start with, you should see the smoke exhaust wrap causes 8O

I was supposed to fit exhaust wrap to the manifold, but it arrived too late and I was too impatient, so it's sitting in my office at work :)

I'll ask Steve if the S14 this was mated to showed any signs of guzzling oil, it was very sooty (as the seats in the Soarer will testify to as I did a good job of rubbing some into the mouse fur). I really hope it is something to do with the exhaust system and not the engine mate.

Is smoke when hot and on over-run likely to be rings?

How hot though? if your only doing short journeys (up and down the road) its more likely to be stem seals, these wouldnt have been replaced as part of the short engine warranty replacement. My E34 is nearly clocking 140k now and has been giving a puff of smoke on startup for the last 5k miles, this is stem seals, they wont be getting changed anytime soon..

I don't get any on startup when cold or when it is warming up, it is only when it is getting upto 1/2 on the gauge that it seems to be doing it.

Does it a little if you blip it from tickover, but I have noticed it is a lot worse after driving a short distance and then stopping. I reversed it back onto the drive after going round the block earlier and I was backing through a cloud of shite.

Infact I have just been outside and started it from cold and not a single trace of smoke either in initial start with no throttle and also from a quick rev up.
