Ha ha, £49 for a recharge, its the cheapest by far around here, I ended up using brownhills though, the guy there is an ex main dealers mechanic so knows what he's on about and is very helpful. Charged me £40 and talked me through the machine so we could workout what would be best, if you kick it you get an extra 25g refrigerant :D

Indeedy, this was on the private road I had to navigate up today :)

Image

Nice improvement from the 2.8 with 5 speed and 15 inch BBS which was as below

Image

Just been having a play with the throttle/inlet

I got pointed towards this throttle by a zoner last month sometime and just had to buy it, M52 throttle but taken out to 68mm, the standard throttle is 64mm

Image

Image

Image

There is a bit of a step inside but this is the same as the standard throttle, only its more prominent in the standard, looking down the standard its on the verge of becoming a venturi

Image

Image

Must be an improvement over the M50 throttle, butterfly is also vertical to coincide with the 90 degree bend in the intake boot just before the throttle, M50 butterfly is horizontal but much easier to machine

This is the S50 airbox/MAF fitted with the samco S50 MAF - M50/52 thottle boot, silicon smoothness FTW :)

Image

Bit of a git as I cant bend this boot like I did the standard so I will have to make a new bracket up :?
Cable ties for now though as it had to be test driven :)
The idle speed has raised to about 700rpm which isnt bad TBH but the good thing is I havnt noticed any flat spots yet.
I cant say if it has released more ponies but it is definitely a lot smoother laying down the power, so smooth it feels a bit slow and boring if that makes sense?? :?

Test drive while football is on is great, the saxo/fiesta crew pulled over when they saw me approaching V fast in the mirrors
It winds up very well, just measured part of the stretch I was using with google earth and its 0.36 miles, im getting over 120 indicated in that part which starts from coming out of an island and ends at a bridge winkeye

Did you have to cut the hose down in the end or was it the right length

Standard length, I might still cut it down to get the filter back a bit

it really winds me up when people ask me why i didnt buy a standard e30 325i instead.

Dan, what sort of power is this expected to see? It really is an inspiration.

If the old airbox is going spare...

Stock with the Alpina ecu is between 260 and 265bhp depending upon whether it came from the E36 or E39 and with about 245Lb/ft of torque
Alpina B10 3.2L #187 (1 of 64 brought into the UK)

thats not bad figures. It'll be interesting to see the power of it on the s52 management and s50 airbox+maf.

Yeah had the whole tribe there :)
You should have said hello, I thought Kieran and his mate were the only zoners there :D

Depending how much extra it will cost I might get a back to back run comparing the 2 boxes/MAF's and throttles

Been giving the chromie some attention this week, some long overdue upgrades that have been on the list for, well, a very long time :D

So, this is what came off -

Image

And this is what went on -

Image

Adjustable rear beam, powdercoated
Sandblasted/powdercoated trailing arms and bush plates
294mm disks, E34 540i calipers and custom brackets
Goodridge flexi's with stainless fittings (also fitted to front)
Custom Faulkner springs wound to the same poundage as the H&R that came off but 15mm lower (thanks to Dezzy for sorting this out) 8)

Near enough everything has been replaced or reconditioned, here are the handbrake shoe levers and adjusters after some acid dipping and phosphate coating action :)

Image

Also had a new spring kit kindly donated by Paul (diddler) as he ordered 2 for his chariot by mistake :D

Image

As you can see the backplates had to be re-sized :)

I decided to fit 10mm spacers behind the rear wheels, found some hubcentric which are supposed to be for a golf which meant the rear hubs had to be turned down a bit to get them on

Image

Fitted -

Image

Image

Bit of poly hiding away in here :)
Drive shafts were stripped down, CV's cleaned out and treated to some fresh grease while they were off the car.

Image

Behind the wheel -

Image

I bought some 15mm drop hats for the front a while ago, so these also got fitted along with some 5mm alloy spacers I had laser cut for a perfect fit

Spacer -

Image

And this is how the car now looks 8)

Image

Image

Almost ready for Pod
