yes that is the pin in question as it gets picked up by the two sensors in the bell housing of the gearbox :D

Surely far easier to tap and Loctite or weld in a bolt to your existing flywheel rather than search for a rare replacement item...

How is a M 1.3 conversion costing you more than the car? (unless you were virtually given the car).
All you need is a clapped M20B20 or B25 to swap the bits off. Plenty of these around for scrap value.

Can anyone confirm what I would be looking at price wise for the conversion?
How much for bits? How much for labour?

As I have the flywheel off and I think I have now sourced a flywheel (I will wait until I see it) I am going to put it back together with a new clutch and hope it works.

If it goes again then 1.3 conversion it is!

Ask mattyb on here, who is doing a similar conversion at the moment.

CharlE30 had the complete Motronic 1.3 setup for £90

I just had a look at Matty's thread and that really is a huge undertaking. Heck, I reckon I could have my flywheel off in a few hours if I needed to again.

I'd be tempted to fix up your flywheel and clutch; you can always update to M1.3 at a later date.

The parts can be sourced for next to nothing the main expense would be the wiring loom
i would do as brian suggests find a clapped out ould 325i 0r 320i facelift car and all the bits are there for the conversion.
read that conversion theread and you coupl do it in a day quite easily but if you skills do not stretch that far i am sure if the right parts were sourced a garage could ot it within 4-5 hours max thats with the car rolling in and rolling out of the door. as the frontof the enige needs to be stripped down. so some new AUx belts and coolant check would happen so budget this in also but thats just an idea...

This is a completely different proposition from that mattyb is undertaking. His is an apparently an old L-jet with an old type conventional distributor.
Your conversion is a simple DIY job.

but they are geeting to that age theo where its seems to be happening more and more i can recall approx 5-6 phone calls regarding this problem i think it may be an age related thing
but each to there own

Ps theo whens the last time you came across a early flywheel withput a bolt welded in the whole ???? :D
I was talking to my dad today and he says he has all the stuff needed to put a bolt in the flywheel (threading taps etc) although I am guessing the sizing is pretty critical?
Has anyone done this before? Has anyone got a picture of a flywheel with an intact pin on it?

You could temporarily glue the broken pin back on and measure its dimensions, then replicate this with the appropriate sized bolt. I'm assuming the pin isn't magnetic - worth trying a test for this, presuming it didn't lose its magnetism when it got hit.

If it is magnetic, you'll have to magnetise the bolt by running a powerful magnet along it several times. Then, there will be the polarity issue of course - which end to fit to North...

I have managed to locate some pictures of what the pin should look like so I am going to fabricate something tomorrow with my dad.

I found out that the pin does not need to be magnetic but has anyone ever put a bolt in to replace the flywheel pin? Does it have to be square like the original tab on there?
